n The childminder provides a warm and nurturing environment. Children explore with confidence and have settled well into her home. n The childminder knows the children well. She plans activities which she knows will interest them and challenge their current level of learning. n Partnerships with parents are strong. Effective communication means that parents are aware of what their children are doing and know how to support them further at home. n The childminder strives to continuously improve. She has attended training on observations and assessments which has enabled her to track children's learning more specifically and plan very specific activities to ensure that all aspects of their learning are tailored to them.

p.1

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of the procedures to follow should she have concerns about children's safety or well-being. She ensures that she keeps her knowledge up to date and in line with current guidelines and legislation. For example, she completes specific training and networks with other professionals. The childminder constantly risk assesses her home and includes children in some of the assessments to help develop their understanding. For example, they take part in very regular fire drills so that they are aware of how to respond in an emergency.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides activities that inspire children to explore and investigate. She has an impressive understanding of how children learn and a vast range of activity ideas to support this. For example, she placed a variety of items, such as acorns, conquers, feathers and pine cones, for them to feel and encouraged their use of large tweezers to pick them up which helped develop their small-muscle skills. The childminder narrates constantly while children play. This enables them to hear a variety of words and develop their range of vocabulary. For example, children copied words, such as 'spiky' and 'smooth'. The childminder supports children's developing imaginations and role-play skills effectively. She asked them to make her cups of tea and asked a range of simple questions, such as 'is it hot?', which helped further extend their play. The childminder monitors children's development constantly and tracks their learning to ensure there are

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy and thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder. They seek her out during play and go to her for cuddles and affection when needed. The childminder has a secure understanding of children's individual routines. For example, she recognises when they are tired or hungry. Children behave well and as expected for their age. They regularly show high levels of care and consideration for their peers. For example, they hold hands when walking to wash their hands and help each other put their shoes on. The childminder is a good role model. She treats children with respect and teaches them the importance of manners, such as 'please' and 'thank you'.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points in preparation for future learning. They are active learners who engage with ease and enjoy learning. Young children already enjoy exploring books and excitedly point to pictures. They confidently make marks and are learning how to hold pens correctly in preparation for writing.
