p.1

The provision is good

n The well-qualified childminder provides a wide range of activities that focuses on children's next steps in learning. This helps to support the good progress children make. n The childminder immerses children in a language-rich environment. She introduces exciting adjectives to help younger children expand their emerging vocabulary. n Children form close relationships with the childminder. They trust the childminder and welcome her company and participation in their self-chosen play and explorations. n The childminder values feedback from parents, children and other professionals to help her evaluate the quality of her provision.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n The childminder does not consistently form strong partnerships with other settings that children also attend, to help her maintain effective two-way communication. n The childminder does not gather regular updates from parents about their children's continued progress at home, to assist continuity in learning and development.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

She spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. n The inspector checked the evidence of suitability of the childminder and household members. She viewed a range of documents, including the safeguarding policy and children's progress records. n The inspector assessed the quality of teaching and talked with the childminder about the impact it has on children's learning. n The inspector read letters from parents and took their views into consideration.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her responsibility to keep children safe and knows how to report any concerns she may have about children's welfare. The childminder makes the most of opportunities to strengthen her already good knowledge and understanding of how to support children's welfare and education. For example, she attends training sessions and network meetings. The childminder effectively monitors children's progress and completes statutory checks and assessments when required.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder effectively follows children's interests and likes to stimulate and trigger further learning. This includes using outside spaces to help support children who prefer to learn outdoors. She adds mathematical language into her commentary while young children play with cars and supports them when they practice their counting skills. The childminder allows children to learn at their own pace. Children return to favoured activities to help build upon their prior experiences and learning. She remains flexible during adult-led activities and changes her plans depending on children's reactions to help satisfy children's needs.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment for children to use. They move freely between rooms and the enclosed garden where, among other activities, they practise their balancing skills. This helps to support their physical development. The childminder is a good role model for children. She encourages them to share and to be kind to others. This helps children to behave well. The childminder gathers information from parents about familiar daily routines, such as sleep times. This helps her to provide consistent care, assisting children to settle quickly. The childminder keeps parents updated of minor changes during the day, such as when children are 'off their food', and she welcomes their knowledge as to possible causes of these changes. This helps the childminder to provide the most appropriate care for children.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are enthusiastic, engaged learners. They concentrate for long periods during their play and explorations. From a young age, children show their interest in letters and numbers. They learn skills to help them become independent, such as washing their hands before meals. When the time comes, children are ready for their next stage of learning at school.
