The childminder gains a good amount of information from parents about their children before they start in her care. She uses this information and observations of children at play to assess children's progress. The childminder's teaching is responsive to children's needs and interests. She skilfully follows young children's lead and enhances their play. For example, she helps children to develop their communication and language skills exceptional well. She uses a good range of questioning techniques and gives children plenty of time to respond to her. The childminder introduces mathematical concepts to children as they play.

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder takes time to help children feel comfortable in her care. During settling- in sessions she builds meaningful relationships with children and parents. This helps children to settle in quickly and feel at ease in their new environment. The childminder is responsive to children's care needs. For example, when younger children show signs of tiredness she organises meals around their individual needs. The childminder supports children's good health well. For instance, they learn about the importance of washing germs off their hands from an early age. Children eat healthy foods and play outdoors daily in the fresh air.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are prepared well for their eventual move on to school. They make good friendships with their peers, they share and play well together. Children listen well and follow instructions and are developing their independence skills well. For example, they try to put on their own bibs ready for snack and mealtimes. They are confident and curious, like to experiment and are learning how things work. Children are starting to use numbers during their play, for instance they count the number of animals during a matching game.
