Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have a good understanding of the signs and symptoms that may indicate that a child is at risk of harm. They follow clear procedures in the event of any accidents or emergencies, to meet children's needs and to protect children's welfare and well-being. The childminder supervises children well. She ensures risks in the home, and on the walk from school, are minimized, to keep children safe from harm. The childminder knows the children and families well. She communicates effectively with parents on a daily basis to keep them well informed about their children's time at the setting. This successfully supports continuity of children's care. The childminder supports her assistant well to ensure that she fully understands the responsibilities of her role and is able to fulfil them effectively.

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistant provide children with a good range of play provision from which to choose. She ensures that resources are appropriate for different ages of children who come to her setting. The childminder and her assistant interact and play with the children and help them to build on the skills they gain in school. All children freely explore and make choices from the resources and activities available. They enjoy being creative and use their imaginations very well. For example, they create intricate patterns with creative plastic bands and engage for long periods with the construction and small-world resources. The childminder engages children in interesting conversations and shows a great deal of interest in what they have to say. For example, she counts with children as they play with farm animals and encourages them to think and to solve problems. Children concentrate to consider these problems and persevere until they find

For example, she gives gentle reminders and praises children appropriately. Children behave well. Older children are very kind and caring towards younger children, and are very good play mentors. All children demonstrate a sense of ownership of their environment, confidently tidying away resources that are easily accessible and available to them. The childminder provides children with a wide range of nutritious, well-balanced afternoon snacks and home-cooked meals. Mealtimes are social events, where children sit together and talk about their day at school. Children are developing good independence skills.
