Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent, up-to-date knowledge of how to protect children and vigilantly follows her extremely detailed referral procedures should she have concerns about the health or welfare of a child. The childminder quickly identifies and completes training courses that inform her practice and enhance her service. Recent training has helped explore the reasons why children may behave inappropriately and how it is linked to a particular stage of their development. The childminder has established a rigorous induction and supervision plan for her assistants that helps to ensure that they are suitable to work with children. She frequently monitors her assistants' performance to enhance and sustain exceptional teaching practice. The childminder involves her assistants in evaluating the effectiveness of what they offer to children and their families. They set themselves challenging goals and continually strive

to achieve ever higher levels of expert professional care and learning. For example, they have re-evaluated and plan to re-model the outdoor environment so that children can enjoy a wide range of exciting activities in a safer and more-spacious area.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
Children display extremely high levels of concentration. Younger children are very creative and make birthday cards for their friends. They pay particular attention to the letters they need to spell 'happy birthday'. This builds on children's excellent literacy skills that they learn at school. Each child has a book which contains their work, observations made by the childminder, and photographs of activities in which the child has participated. The childminder makes excellent use of this information to assess and meticulously plan for children's individual learning needs. She intuitively adapts activities, the level of support she offers and the language she uses, to meet children's individual stage of development. For example, she uses highly effective questioning to help older children with their mathematics homework. The childminder asks, 'How can you arrange large numbers so that they are easier to divide?' Children respond, 'By breaking it down

into units.' She consistently uses excellent teaching skills to develop children's ideas and extend their learning. For example, at dinner time, she encourages children to discuss if the jelly they have for dessert is a liquid or a solid, and their different properties.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children are extremely well mannered and demonstrate an exceptionally caring attitude towards others. Older children are superb role models for younger children. They ensure that they have the right cutlery at dinner time, and even offer to cut up their food for them. Children exhibit excellent physical skills. For example, they very skilfully hop on one foot, negotiating the available space, and attempt to do the splits. The childminder provides children with excellent meaningful ways to learn about the wider community and takes great care to choose activities that intricately meet the individual interests of each child. For example, after children showed great interest in the local police, she arranged their visit to meet children and help them further gain a superb knowledge of the people who help us. Children use the environment highly effectively to stimulate and develop their imaginations. For example, they recall their playtime experiences as they
