p.1

The provision is good

n The experienced and well-qualified leader and staff team demonstrates a strong commitment to improving outcomes for all children. Self-evaluation, which involves staff and parents, is effective. n Parents are encouraged to contribute to children's initial assessments and are given support and guidance to continue with their children's learning at home. n Staff support children's communication and language skills particularly well. They engage children in conversations throughout the day and effectively model children's language as they play. n Children form strong attachments to staff. Staff are kind, caring and respond well to children's emotional needs. This helps new children to quickly settle into their new surroundings. n Staff make regular assessments of children's development and use this information well to identify what children need for further learning. Leaders provide good guidance and ensure staff use tailored strategies to close gaps quickly in children's learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n Staff do not always make best use of boys' interests to inform planning for their literacy development. n Staff do not consistently encourage children to learn and think about the consequences of their actions on others.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. All staff are trained in child protection and wider safeguarding issues, and they know the procedure to follow if they have a concern. Staff are vigilant and supervise children well. Recruitment and vetting procedures are thorough. Staff conduct regular risk assessments to ensure that all areas accessed by children are safe and suitable for use. The leader monitors teaching effectively and staff have regular opportunities to attend further training. This helps to build on their good knowledge and skills and helps to further improve the outcomes for children. Close partnership working with the host school helps to prepare children for their move to school.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff use the observation and assessment system in place confidently to understand children's level of development and plan challenging experiences for children. They skilfully join in with children's play supporting their learning in a playful and enthusiastic way. Staff help children to immerse themselves in imaginative and creative play. For example, after reading a story about a witch, children decide they would like to make a wand. Staff encourage children to think for themselves, planning their ideas, how to do things and the resources they will need. Staff support children's language development well. They model clear pronunciation, encourage young children to join in with simple repetitive songs and play games that support listening skills and following simple instructions. Older children enjoy narrating their play. For example, they describe what they are making when using different creative materials.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff promote a positive attitude to learning through play, making choices and developing friendships. They are good role models and are very attentive to children's needs. Staff listen with genuine interest when children talk to them. Children's health and physical development is fostered well through healthy eating and good access to outdoor play. They enthusiastically complete the low-level obstacle course and confidently manoeuvre and balance large tyres. Children are encouraged to be kind and help each other. For example, an older child holds a younger child's hand to help them balance on the low level bars.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress. They are confident speakers and learn how to manage their own personal care well. Children's learn to recognise numbers, learn about shape names, colours and counting. They develop good skills using technology. They use their skills to manoeuvre through games and programs successfully. Children sing familiar songs and rhymes and complete the corresponding actions. Children are gaining the key skills for future learning in readiness for the move to school.
