The provision is good
n The childminder reflects on the quality of her service and makes effective plans to improve children's learning outcomes. For instance, she has developed the range of resources for outdoor play, to help children develop a wider range of physical skills. n Children learn to enjoy healthy lifestyles. For instance, the childminder provides nutritious snacks and offers guidance for parents on the meals they provide, to ensure that these are healthy and balanced. n The childminder develops strong relationships with parents. She works well in partnership with them to help children settle when they join her setting and to cater for their individual needs successfully. They respond well to the childminder's gentle guidance and their behaviour is good.
p.1
The provision is good
n The childminder teaches children about shapes and measurements. For, example, babies learn how to fit shapes into simple puzzles and to fit cups of varying sizes inside each other.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder does not consistently allow children time to fully develop their thinking skills. For example, she sometimes steps in too quickly to show children how something is done, rather than allowing them to work things out for themselves.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The well-qualified childminder has a good understanding of children's learning and development. She continues to update her professional knowledge and skills. For example, she uses training effectively to strengthen her understanding of a broad range of safeguarding issues. She exchanges ideas for good practice with other childminders and researches ideas on the internet to help develop her teaching skills successfully. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the signs, which might indicate that a child is at risk from harm and how to report any concerns about children's welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly observes children's play and carefully monitors their progress to identify what they need to learn next. She takes account of children's preferences and provides interesting resources, which engage the children well and help them to learn. For instance, children explore their creativity through pretend play, painting, drawing and sticking activities. Parents enjoy a good exchange of information about their children's development, to help them support their children's progress at home. They contribute to the assessments of their children's learning and help her to plan for their ongoing progress.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children build close and trusting bonds with the childminder. They settle-in quickly and demonstrate that they feel very safe and secure in her welcoming home. The childminder has developed effective relationships with schools that children attend. She ensures that there is a good exchange of information between herself, parents and teachers, to support continuity in children's care. The childminder has a good understanding of how to support children's behaviour. She uses gentle reminders to help children understand what she expects of them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their individual starting points. They develop good physical skills and begin to control their large- and small-muscle movements well. For instance, babies become confident walkers, they learn to feed themselves and operate simple push button toys. Children develop a good range of skills to support the next stages of development and their eventual move on to school. For example, they experiment with different ways to make marks in readiness for writing.
