Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is extremely well informed about child protection procedures and has an excellent understanding of how to keep children safe. Recent training has helped her to be even more vigilant and proactive towards any changes to safeguarding guidance. The childminder is highly committed to the continual development of her already exceptional practice. She updates her teaching skills regularly. For example, she has attended specific training on 'supporting boys' play', which has resulted in boys reaching above typical levels of development in mathematics and literacy. She recognises she could do more to include more creative play opportunities outdoors.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder is highly reflective and her observations and assessments of children are extremely perceptive. The excellent range of activities and outdoor experiences engages and motivates children. Every interaction with children is effortless. For example, as children make nests using spaghetti the childminder explores with them what you might find in a nest. Children are highly responsive and share 'dinosaur eggs'. They go on to explore different types of dinosaurs and their habitats. The childminder places a superb focus on supporting children's literacy skills. For example, children thoroughly enjoy exploring a variety of books. They listen attentively to stories and confidently ask questions about 'why trolls live under a bridge'. There is an extremely sharp focus on supporting children's mathematical skills. The childminder sets challenges by asking children to share out nine strawberries equally. They successfully share eight then

problem-solve how to share the last one.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder creates an exceptionally nurturing environment, where she values and respects children. Parents share detailed information daily. This helps the childminder to have an insight into children's learning at home. The childminder knows the children exceptionally well and supports them to manage their feelings of frustration. Children are highly independent. They make choices about what types of healthy sandwich fillings they would like. They spread butter on bread, grate cheese and slice cucumbers. They talk about the importance of holding knives carefully and replacing safety sleeves to keep safe. Being active is a strong feature. Children enjoy learning to negotiate space, developing coordination and control over their bodies.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children flourish as they become independent and learn valuable social skills, such as kindness and consideration for others. They learn how to hold and control a range of tools skilfully, including small tweezers and safety knives. They persevere for long periods to perfect these newly acquired skills. This prepares them exceedingly well for the next stage in their development and school.
