Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her safeguarding training updated. She has a good understanding of her role and responsibility in safeguarding children's welfare. The childminder minimises risks to children competently so they can move around independently. She teaches them how to stay safe on outings. The childminder improves her knowledge and skills by, for example, attending further courses and doing research. She recently attended a course that has increased her awareness of how to encourage children to have mutual respect and tolerance of others.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
There is a good two-way exchange of helpful information with parents that contributes to continuity in children's care and learning. The childminder uses what parents know about their children to help establish children's starting points in learning. Overall, the childminder has a good awareness of individual children's stages of development and abilities. She builds on their skills and models play. The childminder helps children develop good speaking skills. Young children copy her words and start to form two-word sentences. They develop good physical skills, for example, when they handle and move toy dinosaurs and scoops in dry sand. Children are curious and enjoy learning. For example, they laugh as they watch the childminder trickle sand through her fingers.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a good role model and shows respect to the children. They enjoy being with her and behave well. Children take on responsibilities, such as tidying up toys after they have finished playing with them. They manage their own personal care needs well. For instance, young children help themselves to a drink of water when they get thirsty. The childminder teaches children how to wash their hands and reinforces their understanding of why they need to do it. She provides daily exercise and fresh air that helps contribute to children's good health.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop well in the skills they need to secure future learning. They are confident and independent. Children make choices from the resources. For example, they choose bubbles and get excited as they try to catch them. Children enjoy exploring and concentrate well at activities, such as making marks and patterns in dough. Young children follow simple instructions well. They begin to develop a good awareness of numbers.
