Her knowledge of the 'Prevent' duty is a little less secure, although she does have some understanding. The childminder has a comprehensive set of policies and procedures, which she uses well to support her good practice. The childminder completes regular risk assessments to ensure that her home is safe and fit for purpose. Children's overall development is monitored well. The childminder maintains an overview of children's progress which helps her to identify any gaps in their learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is a good role model and provides a variety of learning experiences based on children's interests. For example, children enjoy weighing and measuring out the ingredients in preparation for baking. The childminder encourages children to count and uses the weighing scales to support children's recognition of number. The childminder offers praise and encouragement which enables children to achieve and have a sense of belonging. Children enjoy being physically active. For instance, they enjoy daily outings to playgroups and visit various places of interest within the community. These opportunities enable children to develop their social skills while learning about people and the wider world. Children are taught about managing and understanding risk as they learn about road safety. The childminder provides children with healthy and wholesome foods. She teaches them well about good hygiene practices and children routinely tidy up when they have finished an activity.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Overall, children are learning a wide range of skills in readiness for their next stage in learning, including their eventual move to school. Children are confident communicators and self-motivated learners who are able to express their thoughts and ideas clearly.
