p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder works well in partnership with parents. She regularly shares information with them about their children's development, routines and interests. This helps children to feel settled as the childminder follows their individual routines and talks to them about their home lives. n Children enjoy spending time with the childminder and seek her out to engage in their games. They develop good relationships with her and she is a positive role model to support their interactions with their peers. n The childminder knows what children like and how they prefer to learn. She provides them with interesting activities and experiences that support their development in all areas of learning. n Children make good progress in their development. They are well prepared for their next stages of learning, including the move to school.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n The childminder does not make the best possible use of professional development opportunities to enhance the overall quality of her practice. n The childminder does not consistently share or gather information from other professionals to support her ongoing assessments of children's progress and development.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector had a tour of the areas of the premises used for childminding. n The inspector reviewed parents written feedback. n The inspector spoke with the childminder and minded children at appropriate times during the inspection. n The inspector observed activities indoors. She conducted a joint observation with the childminder. n The inspector reviewed and discussed relevant documents, including children's records and evidence of the childminder's suitability and qualifications.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has undertaken appropriate training to refresh and enhance her knowledge of how to identify, monitor and report concerns relating to children's welfare or the conduct of an adult. She implements and reviews her risk assessment arrangements to minimise potential hazards. Children understand how to use toys and equipment safely. Parents are very pleased with their children's development. They comment that the childminder regularly shares information with them about their children's progress and they feel well informed of the daily activities and routines. The childminder oversees children's development regularly to ensure they are progressing in all areas of learning. She accurately evaluates the quality of her setting and aspires to continually improve her practice.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder understands how children learn and has high expectations for what they can achieve. She provides activities and resources that she knows children will enjoy, based on their interests. This helps to support their engagement and concentration. Children sit and concentrate on jigsaw puzzles and shape sorters. Younger children sort shapes on stacking towers and the childminder gives them time to work out how to complete these correctly and name the colours of each shape. The childminder helps older children to hold mark-making tools securely in preparation for writing. Children enjoy sitting with the childminder and trying to remember what happens next as she reads their favourite stories.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides healthy, balanced snacks and meals which reflect children's individual dietary requirements. Children engage in physical exercise in different ways. For example, the childminder puts the children's favourite songs on so that they can dance and copy the actions. Children learn to understand the childminder's rules and treat others with respect. The childminder gives clear instructions to help children understand how to keep themselves safe, for example, when stroking her pet dogs. Children are provided with regular opportunities to learn about the local community and wider world to enhance their understanding of diversity.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their individual starting points. They develop skills that prepare them for their next stages of learning, such as recognising written letters and how to correctly pronounce initial letter sounds. Older children start to do things for themselves, for example, selecting their own snacks and managing their personal hygiene routines. Children demonstrate helpful behaviour, such as tidying away the resources they have been using.
