p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder knows the children well and supports their emotional development very well. She promotes children's self-esteem and confidence and gives high levels of praise. n The childminder observes and tracks children's development well. She uses children's next steps in learning to support their play and to help them make good progress. n Children are happy and well behaved. They clearly feel safe within the childminder's home as they explore and move around with ease and confidence. n Partnership working with other early years professionals involved in children's care is effective. The childminder ensures feedback is consistent to provide good continuity of care in children's care and learning. n The childminder is focused on improving her training further. For example, she has recently started a teaching diploma to enhance her knowledge and skills for the early years curriculum.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to help children learn more about what makes them unique, and the similarities and differences between themselves and others. n The childminder's monitoring of her own teaching is not sharp enough to identify ways to fully enhance and meet all areas of learning, to precisely raise the quality of her provision even higher.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n increase children's understanding of what makes them unique, similar and different from others n extend the monitoring of teaching more precisely to identify ways to enhance and develop good practice even further, to help raise the outcomes for children to a higher level.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector observed children's play and the childminder's interaction during activities. n The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder. n The inspector spoke to children and interacted in their play. n The inspector examined documentation, including children's records, learning records, policies and procedures.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of her role and responsibility to keep children safe. She is confident in recognising the signs and indicators of a child being at risk of harm and securely understands the routes for referral. The childminder provides a welcoming and safe homely environment for the children. Required documentation, including permission to administer medication, is in place and well maintained. Written references from parents are glowing and show that all parents speak very highly of the childminder and the care she provides.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a good range of toys and resources to support children's learning. For example, children enjoy playing imaginatively with the doctors kits, pretending to make each other better with medicines and bandages. The childminder extends children's language skills well. For instance, she talks and asks children questions throughout their play and during conversations. The childminder supports children's early literacy skills effectively. For example, she reads fiction books as requested, and makes reading enjoyable and imaginative by using puppets and voices to create excitement and drama. The childminder supports children's large physical skills well. For instance, the children and the childminder regularly enjoy yoga where they practise stretching and balancing movements.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy, confident, and well behaved in the childminders care. The childminder supports their self-care skills well and teaches them the importance of good hygiene practices. For example, children know from a young age the importance of washing hands before eating and they talk, unprompted, about the reasons confidently with the childminder. The childminder develops children's understanding of safety well. For instance, she teaches children about the possible dangers in the kitchen as they crack eggs, mix these up and cook them for their lunch. Children have daily opportunities for outdoor play, which supports their health and well-being effectively.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are developing good skills to help prepare them for their progression to school. Children develop good independence skills and grow in confidence to do small tasks for themselves. For example, children as young as two-years-old peel and segment their own fruit at snack time. Children develop good social skills. For instance, they are encouraged to mix and play cooperatively with others as they play and enjoy trips to toddler groups and music time.
