The provision is good
n Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder and his co-childminder work collaboratively with parents to gather key information about children when they first start at the setting. They use this information to create a familiar environment where children feel safe and secure, and settle rapidly. n Children are free to make choices in their play. They take part in fun and exciting activities in the expertly planned and well-resourced indoor and outdoor play areas. Children are engaged and focused in their learning. n The childminder and his co-childminder monitor children's learning and development precisely. They regularly share this information with parents and plan effective next step learning targets. Children make consistently good rates of progress and any gaps in their learning are carefully considered in the planning. n Children benefit from the wide range of outings they attend. They learn about the

differences between people and communities as they attend local playgroups, and explore the wider community on exciting adventures to education centres. Children are very confident and sociable.

It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder does not consistently recognise opportunities that arise to promote children's learning during routine parts of the day, such as at mealtimes. n The childminder carefully considers the quality of the service he provides and is proactive in seeking feedback from parents. However, he does not fully utilise this information to identify ways to improve the quality of teaching and learning to an even higher level.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder and his co-childminder have implemented robust safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures. They have attended safeguarding training and share key information with their assistants, helping to ensure that they know what action to follow should there be a concern about a child's welfare. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes daily risk assessments, along with his co-childminder to ensure the premises are suitable and safe for children to access. They complete rigorous risk assessments for any outings, and carefully consider the children attending to ensure their individual needs are met. The childminder has implemented some improvement plans to further enrich the quality of the provision. For example, children benefit from a wider choice and range of opportunities in the newly enhanced indoor and outdoor play areas.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and his co-childminder have recently implemented a new system to monitor children's learning and development. They record observations and assessments precisely in the detailed learning journals. They regularly share this information with parents and other professionals involved in children's care. This helps to ensure children receive the individual support they need from an early stage. Children thoroughly enjoy the exciting and carefully planned mathematical activities. The childminder challenges children well as he encourages them to count and compare differences, for example. Older children confidently count to 20. Younger children thoroughly enjoy using moulds to make various shapes and confidently label these. Children think critically as they share ideas and make comparisons between play sand and magnetic sand. They experiment and guess what will happen next, as they add water and mix colours.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's behaviour is good. The childminder has a caring and nurturing approach. Children respond well as he sensitively encourages them to share and take turns. For example, younger children learn how to be kind and considerate, as they bathe and dress dolls. Older children are caring towards younger children during their play. Children enjoy the healthy meals the childminder prepares for them. They benefit from fresh air and regular exercise during exciting outings in the local community. For example, children learn how to keep themselves healthy as they go on nature walks. They access local educational centres, where they learn about the differences between themselves and others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They develop a strong sense of themselves as they learn about their immediate environment and communities during the wide range of outdoor learning experiences. Children are happy confident learners. They enjoy singing rhymes and reading stories with the childminder. They are well prepared for the next stages of their learning and eventual move to school.
