Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent knowledge of safeguarding procedures. She is highly proactive in protecting children from harm and knows exactly what to do should she have concerns about a child's safety or welfare. The childminder is forward thinking and driven in her aim to build continually on her already exceptional knowledge. She maintains her own professional development by completing a wide range of training. She regularly meets with other childminders to share ideas and discuss best practice. The childminder constantly reflects on her practice. She is fully aware of what she does well and has comprehensive action plans in place for areas she wants to develop. For example, she plans to provide children with a vegetable plot in the garden to enhance their understanding further of where food comes from.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder knows children extremely well. She makes highly effective use of information to plan meticulously for children's individual needs and interests. The childminder is quick to identify any gaps in children's learning and swiftly puts measures in place to help them catch up. She is particularly skilled at encouraging children to explore and develop their own ideas and to achieve new things for themselves. For example, young children are eager to play with water. They think, predict and quickly learn how to turn the tap on and off. Children lead and extend their own learning. They show high levels of concentration as they enthusiastically make marks with big paintbrushes. Children are fascinated as they explore textures, such as flour and water. The quality of interactions between the childminder and children is wonderful. They share ideas, think out loud and are engrossed in meaningful conversations.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder supports children's personal, social and emotional development exceptionally well and they demonstrate that they feel secure and safe. Children flourish and thoroughly enjoy time spent outside in the childminder's delightful garden. She ensures that this environment is equally rich in learning experiences. The childminder helps children to develop an awareness of safety and they learn to manage risk. For example, she encourages young children to use ride-on toys safely and gives them lots of praise when they are successful. Children use their imagination and express their creativity as they make a tray of pretend sweets, offering them to their peers and visitors. They enjoy lots of trips to the local parks, library and play groups. This provides them with ample opportunities to socialise with other children in the community.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

All children make rapid progress in their learning and acquire the key skills required in preparation for school. Children are extremely confident and self-assured. They engage in meaningful conversations with the childminder and visitors. Children recognise mathematical concepts as they add more ingredients to their dough mixture. They learn key skills in literacy as they practise making marks and listen attentively to stories. Young children are beginning to learn routines and boundaries.
