Outcomes for children Requires improvement
p.1
The provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
n Risk assessment is not fully effective. The childminder does not comply with health and safety legislation relating to the safe use of all equipment used by children. n The childminder does not offer her assistants effective support, guidance or coaching, to help them to improve their teaching skills and provide good outcomes for children consistently. n Children are not fully supported in making as much progress as possible. The childminder does not use children's assessment information well enough. Planning is not sufficiently focused to ensure that activities are tailored to children's individual needs and interests. She does not review the quality of the provision effectively. n The childminder limits the opportunities for children to make decisions and explore in their own way. At times, children are not fully engaged in play and learning.
p.1
It has the following strengths
n The childminder has developed effective partnerships with parents and regularly exchanges information with them about children's needs. n The childminder provides children with many opportunities to practise their mathematical and literacy skills. This includes learning to write letters from the alphabet, counting and comparing the size of objects. n The childminder and her assistant are friendly and kind. Children form close attachments with them and enjoy being in their care.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

n make effective use of self-evaluation, to reflect accurately on the quality of teaching and learning, and improve outcomes for children n increase opportunities for children to explore and learn at their own pace, to increase their level of engagement.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
Inspection activities n The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector spoke with the childminder, her assistants and children at appropriate times during the inspection, and carried out a joint evaluation of the teaching and learning with the childminder. n The inspector viewed the areas of the childminder's home used by children. n The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as policies and children's records. n The inspector took account of parents' views.
p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management requires improvement
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistants have a secure knowledge of the procedures to follow if they have any concerns about a child's welfare. However, risk assessment is not fully effective. The childminder does not follow the manufacturer's guideline for the safe use of the trampoline. This means that children's safety cannot be fully assured. The childminder records all the required details about children and maintains accurate registers of their attendance. She seeks to extend her teaching skills. For example, she has completed training to support two-year-old children. However, she does not have effective arrangements in place to support her assistants' practice, including their teaching. She does not reflect accurately on the service she provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The quality of teaching is variable. The childminder does not plan activities that consistently account for the different ages of children present. She makes observations of children's achievements. However, she does not use this information to successfully plan individual learning experiences for children. This means that she does not focus activities consistently enough on what children need to learn next, to help them to make the progress they should. The childminder does not consider the different ways that young children learn and at times, activities are repetitive. The childminder and her assistant provide effective support for children's communication and language development. Younger children explore the sounds that animals make and name them. Older children join in conversations confidently. The childminder plans opportunities for children to practise their physical skills. Children concentrate as they use tools to scoop

dried rice and pour them into containers.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder helps children to learn about hygiene routines and making healthy choices. Children know to wash their hands after using the toilet and before eating. They benefit from nutritious snacks and meals and learn about dental hygiene. However, the childminder does not place the highest regard in promoting children's safety and well- being. Parts of the daily routine interrupt children's play and exploration with some unnecessary waiting and do not support them to explore and learn at their own pace. At times, they become bored, and restless. Children enjoy being physically active, such as chasing their friends.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Due to the weaknesses in teaching and assessment, children are not fully supported to make the progress they should. However, children gain some useful skills to support their future learning, such as reading, writing and mathematics. They learn about people and communities beyond their immediate experience, and explore their differences.
