For instance, she self-evaluates on what she offers to the children with the parents and includes children's choices well. Furthermore, the childminder has addressed her last inspection recommendations well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n Children's knowledge and understanding of similarities and differences in people in the world around them are not as well supported as other aspects of their learning. n The childminder does not focus ongoing professional development opportunities precisely to raise the quality of her provision even higher.

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good awareness of her roles and responsibilities to protect children. She ensures her safeguarding training is up to date and is confident in the signs, symptoms and referral processes to follow if she is concerned about a child's welfare. Feedback from parents shows that they are very happy with the care the childminder gives to their children, along with her provision of ongoing support.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a range of interesting activities to support children's learning and development. For example, she helps develop children's literacy skills by reading stories engagingly with them and encouraging the children to explore with writing materials, such as crayons and pencils. The childminder helps children to develop their communication and listening skills well. For instance, she asks the children a good range of questions in their play and gives an ongoing dialog to further support their experiences and play activities. Children benefit from regular outings with the childminder that help to support their social skills. For example, they visit places of interest, such as music groups to help them meet people and socialise with other children to support their personal, social and emotional development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children demonstrate that they feel safe and are at ease within the company of the childminder. For example, they go to her for cuddles and snuggle into her for reassurance as needed. The childminder teaches children to follow good hygiene practices. For instance, she highlights to the children the importance of preventing the spread of germs, by reminding them to wash their hands prior to eating and not to share their food with each other. The childminder encourages good behaviour at all times. For example, she teaches children to say 'please' and 'thank you' when appropriate. Children have daily outdoor play opportunities to support their physical development. For instance, they have fun in the childminder's garden where they play ball games and enjoy regular walks in the countryside.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are developing good skills to help prepare them for their future learning. Children show excitement in their play that is supportive of learning. For example, all children actively join in with hunting for animals hiding in cereals. Children are beginning to develop some early mathematical skills. For instances, when exploring with puzzle parts they are beginning to learn about shapes and sizes.
