The provision is good
n The qualified and experienced childminder accurately observes and assesses children's learning. She monitors children's development closely to identify any gaps in learning. She thoroughly explores why children may not be making as much progress in some aspects of learning as others. She plans appropriate activities and gives good consideration to resources. n The childminder makes good use of reading to improve her knowledge and support the children she cares for. She undertakes additional research so that she can guide parents and carers with specific issues and ensure children's needs are met. n Children make good progress in their learning. The childminder provides a well- organised playroom indoors. She has a very broad range of outdoor activities and resources that children love to play with. n The childminder has very good partnership working when completing the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years. She ensures that parents

and carers know the purpose and timescale of this check and that the information is shared with the health visitor. She also helps parents and carers to complete any additional information requested by the health visitor so that consistent support can be identified for children where needed. n The childminder ensures that risk assessments promote children's safety. The house and garden are safe and secure. The toys and resources are age appropriate.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n On occasion, the childminder does not give children enough support to fully extend their participation in activities, particularly adult-initiated activities. n Although overall the childminder has good partnerships with parents and carers, she does not consistently encourage them to share information about children's learning at home.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes training in child protection and knows how to manage any concerns about children's welfare or safety. The childminder supervises children well. For example, she ensures that she can see what they are doing and is close by, for example if they use the climbing frame. She also gives them plenty of time to develop their independence, for example, watching from a safe distance as they play in the playhouse. The childminder is continually reviewing her practice to see whether it is meeting the needs of the children she is caring for. She has made some changes to the playroom to enable children to have better access to the toys and resources. She has also introduced some new resources, such as balance bikes, to better support children's learning and ensure they have good levels of challenge.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gives very good consideration to how she uses resources to support particular aspects of learning. For example, she has reorganised the handwashing area and included children's favourite toys to encourage them to develop independence in this area. The childminder provides very good levels of support for children's communication and language skills. For example, she consistently extends their conversations and teaches them new vocabulary. She ensures that when she is communicating with the children they can see and hear her so that she can model language. She is astute at listening to children to gauge whether they understand what they are doing and why. Children can recall the complicated names of dinosaurs and different farm machinery. Children are curious to learn and ask questions, such as 'what is it?' during their play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides very good support to help children to settle and develop a strong attachment to her and other children. She is highly sensitive and effective in reassuring children when they feel anxious, such as when there are changes to the routine. The children soon join in with the play and show that they feel comfortable and secure. Children behave well and are really good friends. The childminder helps children to recognise her expectations. From an early age children can resolve any minor disagreements quickly and without needing adult guidance. The childminder ensures that she gives children meaningful praise to recognise their efforts and achievements. The childminder has a very good understanding of how to promote equality and diversity. She gives good consideration to the activities and the tasks she gives to children. The childminder ensures that children understand what to do to keep themselves safe.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress, and in some aspects of their learning, make very good progress. Younger children can consistently count and recognise numbers one to twelve. Children learn how to manage their self-care from a young age. They show good levels of independence with tasks, such as taking off an apron, undoing the Velcro at the back. Children have very good communication skills, they use a broad range of vocabulary and clearly demonstrate that they understand instructions and conversations. They are developing the skills they need in preparation for school.
