Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding procedures. She has attended training to ensure that she can protect children and knows what to do if she has a concern about the welfare of a child. The childminder keeps up to date with developments in childcare practices and shares ideas with other childminders, to adapt and introduce new activities for children. Written testimonials from parents demonstrate that they are extremely satisfied with the service the childminder and her co-childminder provide.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder follows the lead of her more-experienced co-childminder. Together they carefully organise their environment so that children have opportunities to play with a wide range of toys and resources. Children build their confidence as they actively explore and make choices for themselves. The childminder provides suitable activities that help to engage children. For instance, babies enjoy watching items that light up while in the 'dark den'. The childminder gets down to their level. She responds very well to young children's facial expressions and gestures, and talks to them as they play and explore.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder takes time to support new children to settle. She asks parents to provide information about their children's home routines and likes and dislikes. She follows children's routines to promote continuity of care. Children settle quickly. The childminder follows good hygiene procedures when she changes children's nappies and sensitively talks to them about what she is doing. She praises children often and recognises their efforts and achievements. This enables children to develop their confidence and sense of self-esteem. Children of all ages have opportunities to take part in a variety of events and learn about festivals, giving them a wider understanding of the world.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop a good foundation for future learning, such as moving on to nursery or starting school. Young children are inquisitive and confident to explore their environment. They enjoy opportunities to develop their physical skills. For instance, as they carefully negotiate the low step outside up to the decked area. Babies enjoy investigating age-appropriate toys. All children make good progress and are working comfortably within the range of development typical for their age.
