Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder has not renewed her paediatric first-aid qualification in a timely manner. However, she is able to demonstrate how she keeps her knowledge up to date. For example, she receives weekly updates on effective first-aid practice and carries out independent research and accesses online training. She works closely with other childminders to make sure she stays up to date and is confident in the appropriate action to take if a child is involved in a medical emergency. This means children's good health is maintained. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands whom to contact if she has concerns about children's well-being. She regularly attends refresher courses for safeguarding and child protection to keep herself current on how to keep children safe from harm. Overall, the childminder carefully reflects on her practice, enabling her to make continual improvements. The childminder has established effective links with other
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children well and uses observations and children's interests to plan activities that support their learning and development. The childminder tracks each child's progress to identify any gaps quickly. She successfully uses books to support children's good communication skills. Children eagerly join in with story and rhyme time and enjoy using the props she provides to bring the stories alive. The childminder encourages children's imaginations very well. For example, children play with dolls to act out home routines. Young children enjoy exploring a basket of natural resources, such as sponges, metal tins and brushes. They are curious as they investigate chains and different textured materials.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder risk assesses her home daily and puts measures in place to further ensure children's safety. For instance, she teaches children from a very young age how to walk down large steps unsupervised. As older children make fruit kebabs she reminds them that the skewers are sharp and to take care. The childminder supports children's understanding of leading a healthy lifestyle well. Children have good opportunities to be physically active. For example, they have regular access to the childminder's garden, as well as visits to local parks. Children develop a good understanding of the festivals and celebrations of people from backgrounds different to their own. They show good levels of respect and tolerance for others. Children use public transport and attend a range of groups. This helps them to learn to mix and develop their social skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They are eager to participate in activities and are developing good listening skills. For example, they carefully follow simple instructions well. Children develop a good understanding of numbers, shapes and measures. They develop independence and manage their self-help skills well. For example, they put on their own shoes and find their shoes and bags. Children are gaining the necessary skills in readiness for school.
