p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder uses her observations of the children well, overall, to plan effectively for the next steps in their learning. She swiftly identifies any gaps, which she addresses, so that children make good progress. n Children are motivated and highly focused as they participate in a range of enjoyable activities. The childminder recognises when the children need to move on to another activity, which helps them to stay interested and excited as they learn. n The childminder has strong relationships with parents and other professionals. Parents feel well informed about the progress their children make. The childminder works hard to ensure that relevant information is shared with other settings that children attend, to support their learning and well-being. n The childminder acts as a positive role model for the children. They behave well and respond positively to her, for instance, when she reminds them to be gentle and kind to

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n The childminder does not consistently allow children enough time to think about what they are being asked before expecting a response to her questions.

Inspection activities n The inspector was given a tour of the areas of the premises used for childminding, indoors and outdoors. n The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. n The inspector took into consideration the views of the parents through written feedback. n The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including assessment documents, policies and insurance certificates. n The inspector observed a planned activity and discussed the impact of the teaching on children's learning with the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge up to date by accessing ongoing training. She knows the process to follow to report any concerns she may have about children. The childminder has strong bonds with the families and the children that she looks after. She uses her network of other childminders effectively to support her with developing her practice further. She is keen to enhance her professional knowledge to support the needs of the children in her care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder celebrates children's achievements and displays their work proudly. Children are able to identify their names, for instance, on the pictures that they create. The childminder provides plenty of opportunities for them to develop their hand muscles, such as when they are colouring pictures. Children are offered experiences to explore the local community. For example, the childminder takes children to the farm to feed the animals. Children gain an understanding of the similarities and differences between themselves and others. They show curiosity as the childminder explains why things happen and how things work. This helps them to develop their vocabulary and their understanding of the world around them.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are confident and settled at the childminder's home. They learn how to share and take turns with the childminder's support. Children know the routines of the day and develop their independence skills. For example, after snack time is finished, the childminder encourages the children to put their bowls in the sink and put their water bottles away by themselves. The childminder provides a healthy range of food for children from which to choose. They learn how to use tools safely and understand that rules are in place to keep them safe. For instance, they develop an understanding of the need to sit properly on their chairs so that they do not get hurt.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children gain a wide range of skills during their time with the childminder. They are well prepared for the next stage in their learning. Children use their imaginations as they play. For instance, they create beds for each other out of the cushions. Children develop their understanding of numbers and shapes. They enjoy pointing out circles and squares they see around the childminder's home. Children confidently sing familiar songs with their friends as they play. They enthusiastically develop their larger muscles as they jump and hop. Children persevere as they complete jigsaw puzzles, which helps them to develop the small muscles in their hands and their hand-to-eye coordination.
