She meets regular with other childminders to share good practice and activity ideas. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly updates her child protection training. She has a good understanding of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse. She is aware of the procedure to follow to report any concerns about the welfare of a child in her care. The childminder carries out regular risk assessments to ensure her home and garden are safe for children to play. She works well in partnership with her co-childminder. They have their own key children and this helps to support their individual care and learning needs.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder gets down to the children's level and actively joins in with their play. For example, children engage in imaginative play with farm animals. The childminder makes the noises of the animals and encourages the children to copy the sounds. The childminder introduces children to mathematical language routinely during their play. For example, she helps them to understand about measurement and shape, as they explore different shaped pasta and compare the size. The childminder counts as children spoon the pasta into pots. She skillfully extends their learning offering them further ideas to develop their play.

p.3

The childminder supports children to develop an understanding of keeping themselves safe. For example, she gently reminds children to be careful when they drop pasta on the floor, as they could slip on it and fall. The childminder promotes children's independence and praises their attempts to do things for themselves. Children are encouraged to feed themselves and drink plenty of water throughout the day. Children enjoy being physically active and spending time in the fresh air. For example, they regularly walk to the near by pond to feed the ducks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are developing the skills they need for their next stage in learning and for their move on to pre-school or school. Children develop good social skills and enjoy new experiences. They show a keen interest in books and enjoy visiting the local library. They follow instructions well and use one-handed tools with increasing control. They enjoy joining in with singing and rhymes.
