The provision is good
n The childminder provides a well-organised environment with a good range of easily accessible toys and resources. Children are surrounded with plenty of learning opportunities. They eagerly explore, enjoy learning and make good progress. n The childminder closely observes children at play. She tracks their progress and knows what children need to learn next. n The childminder undertakes regular training and is a member of a consultancy group to help ensure she keeps her knowledge up to date. She is passionate, motivated and committed. n The childminder creates a child-centred environment where children are respected, nurtured and valued. Children are happy and enjoy positive relationships with their peers and carer.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder does not always support parents to share what they know their child can already do when they first start at the setting. n Although the childminder reflects on her general practice, she does not always make the best use of her self-evaluation to identify ways to help raise her provision to the highest standard.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2

n strengthen partnerships with parents and support them more effectively to share what they know about their child's achievements when they first join the setting n focus self-evaluation more precisely on seeking further ways to continue to raise standards.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of her role and responsibilities to safeguard children. There is a detailed safeguarding policy, which is closely informed by the Local Safeguarding Children Board guidelines to help promote children's welfare. Children play in a safe and secure environment. There are effective measures to minimise potential risks and children are encouraged to understand their own safety. For example, children practise fire evacuation procedures regularly. The childminder has attended ongoing training, which helps to develop her knowledge and impacts positively on her practice. She works closely with her co-childminder to monitor her performance. Parents' views are gained through the use of questionnaires and relationships with families are good.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder spends time completing regular observations of children's progress and identifies how to support their development next. This effectively builds on children's existing abilities and motivates them to learn. Assessment is effectively used to identify any gaps in children's learning and enables specific targets to be set to support their individual good progress. The childminder follows children's interests and is always close by to provide support and suggestions to extend their learning further. For example, children develop communication and language skills as they look for bugs in the soil while playing outdoors. Children's learning and engagement is effectively supported during this activity.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children play with a wide variety of interesting and freely accessible toys, indoors and outside. The effective organisation of the environment and range of resources available contributes to children being motivated, enthusiastic, and active learners. The childminder encourages children to make independent choices in their play, building their confidence and self-esteem. Children enjoy physical exercise and fresh air daily. They are provided with nutritious food. Children help to prepare fresh fruit at snack time, developing a healthy attitude to fresh food. The childminder offers praise and encouragement as children succeed in their achievements. Children are happy and enjoy the time spent with the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are progressing well. They are inquisitive and demonstrate a positive attitude to their learning and development. Children are confident when trying new activities and they are encouraged to be independent, building confidence. Children are developing the skills required to move on to the next stage in their learning and eventually school.
