Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant attend training to keep up to date with changes to child protection procedures. Robust policies and procedures are in place to keep children safe, and the childminder ensures that her assistant is fully informed of these. Children are supervised well and the environment is safe. The childminder works well with parents. She regularly shares information about children's learning and respects their views and wishes. Overall, the childminder evaluates her provision well. She seeks feedback from parents and liaises with her assistant about ways to improve the provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Observations of children's play and assessments of their development are undertaken to enable the childminder to identify the next steps for their learning. The childminder provides activities that children enjoy, which means that they are keen to take part. For example, a music and movement session when children enthusiastically 'hop like bunnies' promotes their listening skills and physical development. Props, such as puppets and scarves, are used to engage children fully as they play. Children's language development is promoted well throughout all activities as the childminder and her assistant give children their full attention and encourage conversations.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder and her assistant meet children's emotional needs really well. For example, they provide lots of reassurance, praise and encouragement so that young children soon gain confidence and feel secure. All parents speak highly of the relationships their children have with both of the adults who care for them. Behaviour is managed in a way which is appropriate to children's development stage. Consequently children start to learn right from wrong. The childminder and her assistant support and encourage children to be kind to each other and to share and take turns. Children respond well and play well alongside, and occasionally with, each other.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are acquiring the skills that prepare them effectively for the next stage in learning. They are becoming confident communicators and express themselves well. They show good listening and attention skills relative to their age as the childminder reads their favourite stories to them. Children's independence is increasing. This is demonstrated as they make decisions about what they want to play with, and when they feed themselves at lunchtime. Children move around with self-assurance and have good control of their physical movements.
