p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding
Performance management systems to monitor and improve teaching are highly effective. Teaching is regularly monitored and, through targeted plans, all staff have a very clear understanding of what they need to do next to improve their practice even further. Staff training is comprehensive and highly responsive to the emerging needs of children. The highly trained and well-qualified staff enthuse about the specific training they receive, and they regularly share good practice within this collaborative learning environment. Safeguarding is effective. Staff are confident in their knowledge of the signs that children's welfare may be at risk. They have a detailed understanding of the procedures to follow in the event of a concern, to tackle wider safeguarding issues.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
Teaching is of a very high standard. Staff consistently challenge children as they play. This has resulted in the excellent progress children have made, particularly in their literacy skills. Staff plan rich and exciting learning experiences, often drawing upon children's emerging interests from home as well as within the setting. For example, children delight in re-creating a garage with wooden blocks and plinths, meticulously following a child's own plan expertly created in the outdoor area. Staff skilfully encourage children to think creatively and find solutions to ensure that the garage meets the requirements of the plan. The skilful interactions displayed by staff effectively draw out children's language skills to describe and explain their reasoning. All children confidently lead their own play. They display high levels of motivation, concentration and engagement as they work cooperatively together creating porridge in the mud
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Without exception, children are well settled and demonstrate high levels of confidence and emotional security. For example, staff in the baby room exude kindness and warmth, enabling the youngest children to settle happily and form close attachments to their key person. Transitions are exceptionally well planned for, and the well-thought-out buddy system ensures that staff work seamlessly across rooms, thus providing familiarity for children as they move through the nursery. Children develop their physical skills very well as staff encourage appropriate risk taking while they eagerly try new experiences, relishing challenges, such as traversing the obstacle balance-beam course.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
All children, including those in receipt of funding, make exceptional progress in their learning. Children gain an excellent understanding of mathematics through practical activities. For example, younger children enjoy creating birthday cakes with coloured dough, placing the required amount of spaghetti candles to represent their age. They delight in their achievements as they calculate and articulate how many more they need. Older children competently and confidently use the concept and language of 'least' and 'more' when playing games in the outdoor area. Children are independent, and they approach learning with great enthusiasm and curiosity. They acquire the skills and dispositions ready for their next stage in their learning, including school.
