Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder places great importance on children's safety and well-being. She carries out thorough risk assessments for her home and outings. The childminder helps children to learn about their own safety. For example, children recall that they must sit still on buses and trains, and talk about practising the fire drill and road safety. The childminder has comprehensive knowledge of her responsibility to follow correct child-protection procedures and to report any concerns about a child's welfare. She assesses children's learning and keeps parents well informed about their child's good progress. The childminder gives parents ideas for activities to promote further their children's learning at home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of how children learn and develop. She sensitively joins in children's play while allowing them to take the lead. They have uninterrupted times to play and explore at their own pace. The childminder skilfully asks questions and provides appropriate challenges for children. This helps them to acquire the language skills and determination they need to reach the next steps in their learning. Children have a good understanding of mathematics and use their imaginations well. For example, they confidently count, explore shapes and sizes, and identify colours as they create flowers.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder develops close relationships with children and they are confident and happy in her care. The childminder has consistent boundaries for behaviour that support children to learn right from wrong. The children are kind and considerate, for example, they offer younger children their water bottles. The childminder helps children to learn about a healthy lifestyle. Children develop good physical skills. For instance, they play bat-and-ball games, and enjoy outings to pre-school groups, parks and woods. The childminder encourages children to talk about foods that are good for them. Children learn about their own beliefs and those of other people.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are enthusiastic learners. They listen attentively to stories and enjoy exploring rhyming words. Children hold a pencil comfortably to write. They have good independence and self-care skills. For example, they choose resources for themselves and put on their shoes to play outdoors. Children develop their creative skills as they carefully stick a variety of materials onto their collage. They develop good skills that prepare them for their eventual move to school.
