p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder has made significant progress since her last inspection. She has reviewed her practice thoroughly and implemented relevant improvements to ensure all requirements are met. n Children have secure friendships with others and enjoy cuddles and play with the childminder. Children enjoy having many opportunities to be active, such as through dancing and outdoor play. This helps them to understand the importance of keeping healthy. n The childminder plans fun and exciting activities which focus on each child's individual needs. As a result, children make consistent and sustained progress, and are well prepared for their next stage in learning. n The childminder provides lots of time for children to practise new skills, such as putting on their shoes. She is nearby to encourage and support them if needed. Children eagerly accept challenges and persevere happily, smiling proudly about their

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n Although the childminder shares information with parents about their child's development, she currently provides less information about how they can extend their child's learning further at home. n The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to promote children's social skills, for example, during snack time.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

n review the organisation of snack and mealtimes, to further encourage children's social skills n further develop ways of encouraging parents to share information about their child's learning at home and offer ideas about how they can extend this even further.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector observed activities and care routines, both inside and out. n The inspector held discussions with the childminder and children at appropriate times. n The inspector reviewed a sample of documents and records. n The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder carefully checks and minimises any potential hazards within her home. She encourages children to understand about keeping safe, such as reminding older children that very small toys can be dangerous to babies and toddlers. The childminder has recently attended training about safeguarding and she has used this opportunity to update her own procedures to ensure she knows what to do if she has concerns about a child. The childminder carefully assesses her practice and evaluates the effectiveness of all aspects of her provision. She is eager to continue to improve and develop in the future. She has made some links with other providers who care for children and recognises the benefits of sharing appropriate information.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder supports children's communication skills very well. She introduces activities which she knows children will enjoy to encourage them to develop their speech. The childminder asks challenging questions and encourages young children to practise the pronunciation of words and sounds, such as when singing songs together. When children look at books, the childminder encourages them to point out different pictures and repeat words and phrases. The childminder sits with children during activities, which promotes good eye contact and helps them to stay focused and remain engaged.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children appear very happy and relaxed in the childminder's care. They confidently choose from a wide range of high-quality and age-appropriate resources and toys. Children enjoy developing friendships, offering help and support to others. Toddlers encourage other children to drink water regularly to keep hydrated and healthy. Children enjoy bouncing on the trampoline and playing on the swing. They show kindness and consideration for each other, offering a hug to their friend when they fall.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are making at least typical progress from their starting points. They enjoy practising their early writing skills, as they trace around stencils and practise holding pens and pencils. Children develop an interest in the wider world, such as through learning words from other languages, and comparing differences and similarities between them. They visibly enjoy the activities provided to them and are well prepared for their future learning.
