p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder is a confident practitioner. She draws on her extensive experience and is proactive in seeking out opportunities to further develop her good knowledge and skills. n Children are making good progress in the childminder's supportive and nurturing environment. n Children learn about expectations for behaviour. The childminder encourages children to understand about boundaries and why rules are in place to help to keep themselves safe. n The childminder has a good understanding about how to promote children's speech and language skills. She recognises that using dummies can impact negatively on children's speech and helps children to settle and feel confident without them.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n On occasion, the childminder does not identify specific, highly challenging next steps in learning when planning and supporting all activities for children. n The childminder does not always motivate children to increase their problem solving and exploration skills as they engage in activities of their own choosing.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n enhance the monitoring of children's progress to more precisely identify what their next steps in learning are n expand on the programme of learning for children to develop skills in problem solving as they explore their own interests.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector discussed a planned activity with the childminder. n The inspector held discussions with the childminder at suitable times. She looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of the childminder and household members.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The childminder works successfully with parents and offers them advice and guidance to support children. She ensures there is time to speak with parents each day to discuss children's learning. The childminder places children's safety at the heart of her work. She undertakes specific training to further enhance her good knowledge and skills of child protection issues. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has successfully addressed recommendations from the previous inspection.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder identifies when children's development does not meet with expectations. She targets her teaching to effectively support them in these areas. Through close monitoring, she recognises the quick progress that children make in a short space of time. By understanding what children's current fascinations and interests are, the childminder builds on their play experiences. She offers real-life resources to enhance children's enjoyment during role play. Story times are engaging for children and they sustain their attention well. When they ask for a story to be repeated, the childminder encourages them to re-tell the story, which they do successfully. This boosts their literacy skills and promotes their communication and language well.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are calm, relaxed and content in the childminder's care. The childminder helps children to share and take turns and they respond warmly to her, showing their close attachments. The childminder ensures that children have the opportunities to mix with other children and develop their social skills. She talks to them about family members as they gain an awareness of themselves and people who are important to them. Familiar, healthy daily routines suit children's needs. Children confidently share their likes and dislikes, such as when they eat their meals together. The childminder encourages children's independence and successfully boosts their confidence.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop their independence and are able to manage their personal needs with confidence. They show curiosity and readily copy the actions of others as they test out their new understanding. Children make good progress, and in some areas of learning their progress by far exceeds expectations for their age. In role-play games, children show a sophisticated ability to use their imagination when playing families and caring for dolls. Children learn the skills they need to be successful in starting pre-school and in moving on in the future to school.
