The provision is good
n The enthusiastic childminder knows the children very well. Children eagerly involve themselves in activities based on their individual interests. n The childminder thoroughly assesses the children's progress and she plans precisely for their next steps for learning. The successful tracking of children's progress helps the childminder to quickly identify and work towards closing any gaps in children's learning. n The childminder works very effectively in partnership with parents and other professionals, such as pre-school staff and paediatricians. This helps her to effectively meet the learning and development needs of all children. n The childminder successfully reflects on her practice and she values the views of others. Parents speak highly about the way in which the childminder helps the children to make good progress in their learning and development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to help parents to extend their children's learning at home, to develop a more shared approach to their learning. n The childminder does not make the most of outdoor play opportunities for children who prefer to learn outdoors, to fully extend their interest at such times.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder follows good procedures for keeping children safe. She knows what to look out for and what to do should a concern about a child's welfare arise. The childminder helps children to learn about the importance of keeping themselves safe. For example, the children talk about what they must do in the event of a fire. The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to making continuous improvement. For example, she attends training, reads articles and works closely with other childminding colleagues.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder identifies children's starting points with their parents. They share information about children's learning to include what they already know, understand and can do. The childminder provides worthwhile information for parents about children's learning and development, for example, through the use of learning journals, the two- year progress check and reports that contribute to supporting the child's future transition. The childminder interacts purposefully with children during their play. She uses effective questioning, models language and introduces new words to help children broaden their vocabulary. The childminder helps children to develop good mathematical skills. For example, during a water and sand activity, children explore changes in colour, count and measure.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has close relationships with the children and she helps them to understand right from wrong. Children learn to share and play cooperatively together. The childminder provides nutritious meals and teaches the children the importance of leading healthy lifestyles. Children know what foods are good for them and talk about the importance of exercising. They develop good physical skills, for example, as they jump, climb, hop and join in action songs and rhymes. Children explore their own beliefs and those of others, for example, as they learn about different languages and festival celebrations.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including those who have special educational needs, make good progress from their individual starting points. They are confident to initiate and hold conversations with others, and they begin to make friendships. Children enjoy exploring letters and the sounds they make. They learn to do things for themselves. For example, they put on their shoes to play outdoors, and help themselves to toys and resources which support their play. Children gain key skills that prepare them well for pre-school and their eventual move on to school.
