Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

Staff use their detailed observations and assessments exceptionally well to help them provide children with thought-provoking and very purposeful activities. For example, staff plan activities around children's interest in the circus. They play music in the background while children dress up and recreate visiting the circus. Staff consolidate children's learning and introduce related activities, such as hook a numbered duck and making popcorn. Children recognise numbers and staff encourage counting. Children show high levels of interest and delight while making tickets to attend circus performances. Toddlers and babies enjoy problem-solving activities while using a mirrored shape sorter. Staff encourage learning by posing challenges for children, modelling how to use resources and asking a range of questions to support children's communication, language and thinking skills.

Children flourish in the highly nurturing environment and develop an excellent sense of belonging. Staff are excellent at supporting children's emotional well-being while playing alongside them, and they support their settling in with compassion and reassurance. Children's independence, choice and decision-making are excellently promoted. They serve themselves at snack and mealtimes and become increasingly independent in self- care skills. Children benefit from excellent music and movement sessions, which help them to develop confidence as well as improving their coordination and physical development. They learn about the wider world in imaginative ways. For example, children visit a care home for older people and play alongside the residents.
