p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. Children's safety and welfare are given high regard by an attentive and considerate childminder. The childminder regularly attends safeguarding training. Her knowledge of how to identify and report child protection concerns is good. This promotes children's welfare. The childminder helps children to learn how to keep themselves and others safe. For example, she reminds children to sit down when they reach the top of the small slide. The childminder is proactive in seeking training to further develop her knowledge of how to support children's play.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder swiftly identifies any gaps in children's learning and development and focuses on these during play activities. She clearly identifies what children need to learn next, to move on in their learning and development. She has high expectations of all children and provides sufficient challenge to extend their learning. For example, children's growing interest in mathematics is incorporated into challenging games. The childminder encourages children to count the balls and place them into the coordinating colour ring. This contributes to their counting and sorting skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave very well and are learning how to be kind and considerate towards others. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles well. For example, children have plenty of opportunities to play energetically outside in the fresh air. The childminder provides children with fresh fruit and home cooked meals. Children learn to follow good hygiene practices. For instance, they manage their self-care skills well and wash their hands before eating and after toileting. The childminder takes children out into the community, such as to the park and toddler groups. This helps children to learn about the wider world and develop their social skills. The childminder gathers all necessary information from parents when children first start. This helps the childminder to provide good continuity of care to children, so that their individual needs are effectively met.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points. They show great kindness for living creatures and develop a good understanding of the natural world. For instance, they demonstrate good investigation skills as they observe bugs they find in the garden. Children are developing the key skills that will help them in future learning and for their eventual move on to school.
