The provision is good
n The childminder engages with children's play enthusiastically and supports them to practise a wide range of skills. This helps to complement their learning at nursery and school. n Children are happy and settled at the childminder's home. They are very keen to come into the setting and quickly become involved in play activities. n Children are confident communicators and interact comfortably with adults. They form firm friendships with other children. n Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder frequently shares information with parents about children's experiences at her home. n Children's behaviour is very good. The childminder is a positive role model. She encourages children to be polite and helpful. n Children enjoy many visits into the wider community where they mix with other people and find out about the world around them.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder does not consistently provide a wide range of activities outdoors that helps children to extend their interests independently. n On occasions, the childminder does not make the best use of opportunities to support children in developing their understanding of healthy lifestyle choices.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of the signs of potential abuse. She knows the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder regularly completes training to develop her practice further. She meets with other childminders to exchange ideas and carries out her own research to help enhance her provision. The childminder carries out risk assessments of her home, garden and outings, and reviews these at least annually, to minimise any risks. This helps to keep children safe from harm. The childminder considers the views of parents and children when reflecting on the quality of her service and before planning any changes.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder skilfully weaves learning through fun into children's routines. For example, she introduces games that support children's early literacy skills when they are preparing their own snacks. Children confidently identify initial sounds and letters that have meaning to them from a poster displayed at their level. They develop their physical skills as they mix ingredients together and spread toppings onto cupcakes. Children practise their fine motor skills, such as when they decorate these cakes with the initial letter of their name using icing. The childminder expertly uses questioning to support children to think creatively, allowing plenty of time for them to respond. Children delight in demonstrating their early mathematical skills as they count backwards from 10 and then from 20.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder promotes the development of children's self-esteem, for example, giving frequent praise for their efforts and encouragement to 'have a go'. Children show that they feel safe with the childminder and have built warm, secure relationships with her. The childminder sets clear boundaries and expectations for children. Children of all ages cooperate with each other, share resources and take turns with little support. They willingly help with daily tasks, including clearing away toys after activities. The childminder provides children with opportunities to find out about similarities and differences between themselves and others. For example, they learn about a variety of cultures and festivals, such as Chinese New Year. Parents comment positively on the good-quality care and the wide range of play opportunities and outings. Children enjoy visits to places of local interest that include beaches, nature reserves, museums and
