Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. All staff have a secure knowledge and understanding of their roles and responsibilities in keeping children safe. They regularly complete safeguarding training and the manager uses training days as an opportunity to refresh and update their knowledge. The premises are safe and secure. Staff greet parents as they arrive and ensure all children are registered on entry. The manager has created excellent partnerships with the parents in the setting. Parents are given many opportunities to share information and offer feedback and ideas. They are kept well informed about their child's progress throughout their time at the setting. The manager has high expectations for the setting and she uses an efficient and regular self-evaluation system to make improvements.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The quality of teaching is consistently strong. All staff have a good knowledge and understanding of the children in their care. They use the observations that they make of the children to plan activities, incorporating the children's interests. For example, a cake- making activity was planned after the children were observed making pretend cakes in the role-play area the previous week. The key-person system works effectively to support children's individual learning. All staff put a strong emphasis on supporting children's language and communication. They use songs and flashcards to enable non- verbal children to be involved and participate.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave very well. They are happy, secure and settled, responding well to the caring and nurturing staff. Staff act as positive role models to the children and create a calm and positive environment for them. There are many stimulating resources and activities, indoors and out, that allow children to explore and discover. Staff provide many opportunities for the children to become independent learners. For example, they encourage children to put on their own art aprons during focused activities. Staff make great use of the outdoor space. When it began to rain during the inspection, they used this opportunity for the children to jump and up and down in puddles and feel the rain on their faces.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children participate fully in all areas of the nursery, maintaining concentration and focus throughout. Children are motivated to learn and show a great deal of curiosity about the world around them. They are developing the skills needed for the next stage of their learning and enthusiastically join in the different experiences staff provide. Children are confident to make their own choices and become independent learners.
