p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder provides a welcoming, stimulating and caring environment. Children settle quickly and develop close attachments with the childminder. She responds well to their individual needs and routines, offering plenty of reassurance and cuddles during the day. This supports children's emotional well-being effectively. n Children make good progress, relative to their starting points. The childminder observes and tracks children's learning and development effectively. She uses this information to plan activities based around children's interests and next steps. n The childminder works closely with parents to gather information about their child's starting points when they first start. She provides parents with daily information about their child's day and achievements with her. n The childminder understands the importance of developing partnerships with other early years settings when children start to attend them.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n Although the childminder shares information daily with parents, she does not share details of children's progress regularly enough to help them support children's learning further at home. n The childminder does not fully evaluate the impact of her practice to help raise the quality of teaching even further and help children achieve even better outcomes in their learning and development.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities n The inspector observed activities and the childminder's interactions with the children. n The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. n The inspector checked and discussed evidence of suitability of all adults living on the premises, and checked the qualification of the childminder. n The inspector spoke to one parent and took account of their views. n The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's records, safeguarding procedures and the childminder's written policies and procedures.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. She is confident about the signs and indicators that may alert her to any child protection concerns. The childminder is clear about the importance of monitoring children's non-attendance. The childminder ensures her home is safe and secure when children are present. She carries out detailed risk assessments in the home and garden to help her eliminate any potential hazards. The childminder monitors and tracks children's progress successfully. This helps her to identify and close any gaps in learning quickly. The childminder is fully aware of the importance of maintaining her own professional development. She regularly meets with other professionals to share good practice. Parents spoken to are very happy with the good quality of the provision and the care provided.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding about how children learn. She provides a good range of age-appropriate activities for the age and stage of development of the children for whom she cares. Young children are able to move around the room easily and access resources freely. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills effectively. She talks to children constantly about the toys they are playing with, encouraging them to push buttons, listen to the sounds, take items out of a container and put them back. The childminder repeats words she hears young children attempt to say, helping them hear the correct way to say them. For instance, when a young child says, 'Gog,' the childminder praises the child and repeats the word 'dog' correctly.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is a good role model and sets a good example through her gentle, caring and considerate approach towards the children. Children quickly develop a close bond with the childminder. They are confident, happy and demonstrate they feel safe in her company. The childminder promotes children's understanding of good personal health and hygiene practices, such as washing their hands before they eat and drinking plenty of water. The childminder has good nappy-changing procedures, maintaining children's privacy at all times. The children respond well to the childminder's positive language, and praise and encouragement.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, including their eventual move to pre-school and school. Children enjoy exploring the world around them as they play outside. Younger children develop their physical skills well as they move around the room, try to walk and pull themselves up on furniture. Children develop their independence skills, as they make their own choices from the good selection of resources.
