Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of the signs and symptoms of different kinds of abuse. She keeps her knowledge of local child protection procedures up to date to help her take appropriate action, and to protect children's welfare. The childminder is keen to extend her professional development. She shares good practice and ideas with other childminders, and attends regular training. For example, after recent training, she has improved how she supports children's emotional development and positive behaviour. The childminder evaluates the quality of the service she offers and reflects on her practice well. She makes regular improvements to support children's good outcomes and broaden their experiences. The childminder carries out regular risk assessments of her home and garden, and minimises any potential hazards. Children's safety is given high priority.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans and provides a good range of activities to support children's interests and developmental needs. She skilfully adapts her teaching to take into account the differing ages of children. The childminder uses skills gained from training to promote children's learning. For example, she helps children to understand numbers, and supports children with counting and identifying shapes and sizes. The childminder builds on children's interests well. For example, children thoroughly enjoy art and craft activities that the childminder provides. They create with a purpose and have a range of resources from which to independently choose.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder nurtures children's confidence well. She adapts activities to encourage their participation at a level with which they feel comfortable. Children are given many opportunities to develop their independence. For instance, they help to prepare food and practise new skills, such as cutting up their healthy snack. Children benefit from regular trips to places, such as the library, soft-play centre and various toddler groups. This helps children to develop their social skills and to learn about the community around them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. Children have a strong desire to explore and show high levels of motivation. Children learn a range of key skills which supports them well for their eventual move on to school. Children show good concentration during activities.
