The provision is good
n The childminder provides a safe, welcoming and visually stimulating environment for the children to explore. Children settle quickly and learn to play cooperatively with their peers. n The childminder is well organised. She effectively implements a comprehensive range of policies and procedures to underpin her good practice. n The childminder offers children plenty of praise, encouragement and reassurance. She is very attentive and children form warm, positive relationships with her. This helps to promote children's emotional well-being and good behaviour. n Daily conversations with parents help to provide continuity of care for children. Parents are complimentary about the childminder and the service that she provides.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder does not always organise resources or make the best use of activities to incorporate what she knows about children's individual learning and interests, to help sustain their concentration and motivation to learn. n Although the childminder gathers information from parents when children first start, this does not include enough information about children's prior skills and capabilities.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder places a high priority on ensuring that she has the most up-to-date knowledge of all safeguarding issues and can quickly address any concerns. She reviews the quality of her provision and identifies ways to refine her practice. For instance, she keeps up to date with general early years issues and accesses relevant training online. The childminder makes regular observations of children's learning. She checks children's achievements against the levels of development typical for their age range, and focuses her teaching on children's needs. A clear written summary of the progress check for children aged between two and three years is completed and shared with parents.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn, overall. She knows children well and understands what they can do and what they need to learn next. Children are offered warm support as they play. The childminder encourages children to try different activities and demonstrates how to use equipment correctly to support their involvement. Children enjoy working together to complete puzzles. They appreciate regular opportunities to play outdoors where they develop strong imaginations. Older children act out role-play scenarios and pretend to make imaginary cups of hot chocolate and serve these with their favourite biscuits. Younger children explore toy cars, trucks and diggers and enjoy sitting and riding on larger wheeled resources.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and confident in the childminder's care and have formed a strong emotional attachment to her. They move freely around the childminder's home and enjoy playing with the resources available, gaining confidence and independence. The childminder supports children in understanding about a safe and healthy lifestyle. She is attentive to children and provides them with nutritious snacks and drinks. Children enjoy visits to the local park and appreciate time in the garden where they have opportunities to develop their physical skills. Regular trips to local attractions help support children to develop their social skills and their understanding of the world around them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Overall, children are making good progress in relation to their stage of development. They are learning to share, take turns and play well together. Children make independent decisions about their play. Younger children make marks, while older children confidently use pencils and pens to write their own names. Children's communication and language skills are developing well. Older children communicate clearly, while younger children respond to simple questions and instructions and are confident when making their needs known. Children are developing skills that will support future learning and the eventual move on to school.
