The provision is good
n Children form strong relationships with the caring childminder. The childminder uses her training effectively to help children feel emotionally secure and have a good sense of self. n The childminder knows children well and plans effectively for their next steps in learning. She assesses and tracks their progress efficiently. Children make good progress from their starting points. n The childminder supports young children's communication and language skills effectively. She constantly commentates on what the children are doing, questions them and encourages them to follow instructions, which they do competently. n The childminder works closely with parents to meet children's individual care needs. For example, when changing nappies, the childminder constantly talks to children about what she is doing and why, treating them with respect.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder does not encourage parents as well as she could, to provide feedback on children's learning and the service she provides to support her planning even further. n The childminder does not use all opportunities that arise to help children learn about shape, size and measure to support their mathematical ideas.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps herself up to date with safeguarding issues and has good understanding of what to do if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder carries out effective risk assessments and uses these well to help her protect children in the home and on outings. The childminder evaluates her provision well and identifies ways to improve, such as the development of the outside area to provide more opportunities for children to explore and investigate. She works closely with other childminders, sharing ideas and practice, to improve the service she provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides children with a broad range of experiences. Since her last inspection, she has improved on the organisation of the learning environment to ensure that children have space to play and can make decisions about their learning. Children show great curiosity as they explore the properties of water. For example, children are keen to copy the childminder's actions and squeeze the foam ball to make patterns on the patio, developing good physical skills for early writing. Children continue their investigations, watching how water passes through different containers to make marks.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are cared for in a nurturing environment. The childminder is calm and consistent in her approach to helping children behave well. For example, she interacts well, demonstrating and providing children with clear explanations to help them share resources as they explore in their imaginative play. Children are confident to sing songs independently and show great pride in their achievements. The childminder provides children with clear explanations so that they begin to understand how to assess risk for themselves. For example, to explain why they should not put fern leaves in their mouths or tip chairs backwards.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make consistently good progress from their starting points and gain the skills for their future learning. Young children endeavour to find solutions, such as finding an alternative bottle to feed the doll, so they can all play imaginatively together. Children gain good independence for instance, using knives purposefully to cut their fruit. Young children listen well. For example, they point to the different animals in a book and make connections to the sound that they may make, developing good language skills. Children enthusiastically participate in familiar songs and use great expression.
