Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This home is operated by a private company. It is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to five young people who have complex needs. A new manager started in post in June 2018, and she has submitted her application to Ofsted for registration.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This children’s home was inspected in June 2018 and was judged inadequate after Ofsted raised significant concerns about the safety of young people at the home. This resulted in nine requirements being raised. This monitoring inspection has highlighted that, overall, the manager and staff are making good progress in addressing the nine requirements made at the last inspection. As a result, six of the nine requirements are now met. This has left three requirements still to be met.

This monitoring visit
A new manager started at the home in June 2018 and has submitted her application for registration to Ofsted.
p.1
This monitoring visit
There are two young people living at the home. New staff are being appointed and there are sufficient staff available to provide the young people with consistent care.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The last inspection highlighted significant deficits in the home’s environment, and a lack of managerial monitoring. This monitoring visit found that there are still occasions when managerial monitoring continues to be weak. For example, one young person’s bedroom was found to have a stain on the wall, the young person’s bedding had not been ironed and there was a loose wardrobe handle. Managers had arranged for another bedroom to be redecorated and personalised; however, the carpet was soiled despite the bedroom being deep-cleaned. These areas of the home do not reflect the care and attention that the young people need to help to boost their self-confidence.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Managers have not checked that all information required by Schedule 3 is held on each young person’s file. This was raised as a requirement at the last inspection. For Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC476292 2 example, one young person’s file is still missing their personal education plan, their local authority’s care plan and a copy of their looked after child health assessment.
p.1
This monitoring visit
More positively, managers have now ensured that staff are enrolled on the level 3 diploma in residential childcare. Most staff are now up to date with their training and personal development. Where members of staff did have gaps in their training, these staff have now been booked on the required courses.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Since the last inspection, there has been a reduction in the number of physical interventions, and there has only been one incident. The record includes feedback from the young person and staff, and includes the manager’s assessment.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Young people are now participating in weekly meetings with staff. They discuss a variety of topics, including activities, days out and menus.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Managers are now ensuring that all staff have regular supervision. This is helping them to reflect on young people’s needs and on their own development. Topics such as safeguarding are discussed in team meetings. This is helping to reinforce the staff’s knowledge about safeguarding young people.
