p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder establishes strong partnership working with parents and schools. She keeps parents well informed of the good progress children make and provides ideas for them to continue learning at home. n The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She effectively plans a range of activities and experiences that stimulates each child's interests and motivations. n Accurate observations and assessments support the childminder well to monitor and plan for what each child needs to learn next. The childminder uses a range of effective teaching methods to promote the learning and development of the children who attend. n Children enjoy healthy and nutritious meals and snacks, and have plenty of opportunities to exercise with vigour and energy. The childminder promotes children's physical and emotional well-being very well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n The childminder evaluates her practice, however, she does not promptly act upon some areas identified to improve upon to raise the quality of provision to the highest level. n The childminder does not maximise opportunities and experiences for children to learn about the world around them.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n build on the methods of self-evaluation and more promptly make improvements identified so that the quality of practice is constantly improving to the highest level n extend the experiences children receive to learn more about the world around them.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. n The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. n The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. n The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a robust understanding of her role in keeping children healthy, safe and secure. She knows the procedures to follow should she be concerned a child is being abused or neglected. The childminder attends regular training, which has a positive impact on the quality of teaching and learning. For example, following early literacy training attended, the childminder supports children to recognise and form the letters of their name. The childminder effectively promotes equality and diversity through activities and everyday experiences.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses a range of effective strategies to promote children's communication and language skills. For example, she introduces new words and tunes into each child's communication. The childminder models and demonstrates the words and actions in songs and rhymes. Children join in with confidence and enthusiasm. Children concentrate as they experiment and practise their physical skills. Younger children search for the pictures as they lift the flaps in the books. They keep on trying as they manipulate the items to fit them into a box. Older children match the picture cards and carefully position them in the corresponding position during a shopping game. The childminder introduces mathematics well in activities and everyday routines.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The kind and caring childminder is a good role model and gives children gentle reminders of expectations. Children behave very well. They make friends easily and help each other. Children are eager to carry out small tasks, for example, as they volunteer to tidy away their toys. The childminder shares regular information with parents to establish children's care needs, routines and interests from the start. This helps her to get to know the children very well and plan to effectively meet their needs. Children form strong bonds and attachments with the childminder and settle in quickly.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident and articulate communicators who listen well and contribute to discussions. They are motivated, eager learners and are keen to share their own ideas and experiences. Children develop the skills they need to support early reading and writing, ready for their move on to school. They develop good independence and self- care skills, and are making good progress towards the early learning goals.
