Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly updates her good knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures. Last year she completed training to gain an advanced safeguarding qualification. The childminder knows what to do if she is concerned about a child's safety. The childminder assesses and monitors children's progress and supports them to reach expected levels of development. The childminder seeks parents' feedback, which she uses to evaluate and improve continually her teaching practice and outcomes for children. The childminder has made changes to her garden that have improved children's safety. She has improved the range of resources to provide children with variety during their play.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder promotes children's physical development well. She encourages children to move around independently and explore. Younger children particularly enjoy handling play fruit and vegetables, and opening and closing the door on a play cooker. The childminder supports older children's confidence to balance on low-level beams and jump on small trampolines. She responds to their interests to develop their coordination. Children enjoy filling and emptying toy trucks with clothes pegs and sprinkling cress seeds into cups containing cotton wool. The childminder provides children with a wide range of experiences. They regularly join other childminders and their children for outings to a local garden centre where children look at reptiles.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder responds in a positive way to children's feelings and emotions. Children are well behaved and emotionally secure. The childminder supports children's good health. She works closely with parents to wean babies and encourage children to try a variety of homemade food. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to be active and play outdoors every day. Children energetically play games of football and basketball. The childminder teaches children how to stay safe. For example, during outings, she explains to them that they must stay close to her and look for traffic before crossing the road.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the skills they need for starting school. They concentrate well while looking at books and listening to stories. They eagerly and confidently count the number of dinosaurs they see in the pictures. Children often play together imaginatively, for instance, while pretending to be pirates looking for sharks. Children develop good independence. Older children learn to dress themselves, for instance, after playing in a paddling pool during hot weather. Babies rapidly learn to feed themselves.
