p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder has developed effective partnerships with parents and other providers to exchange information about children's development and individual needs. This helps to provide continuity in their care and learning. She follows guidance provided by health professionals involved in children's care. n The childminder supports children's communication and language development skilfully. Babies join in with conversations by using sounds and gestures, and repeat their favourite phrases. Older children express their ideas clearly and respond confidently to questions asked. n The childminder provides a good range of activities to help babies explore and make new discoveries. They enjoy investigating an interesting collection of sensory materials and squeal with delight when these tickle their feet and cover their heads. n Children are motivated to learn and make good progress. They gain a good range of

skills that prepares them well for their future learning. They develop good social skills and enjoy involving friends in their play.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n The childminder does not consistently use information gained from observations of children's learning to target precisely the next steps in their learning. n At times, the childminder is not fully effective in helping babies to explore their early mathematical understanding.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of how to keep children safe. She has a clear understanding of the process to follow should she need to report any concerns about a child's well-being. She makes careful risk assessments for her home, garden and places that they visit to keep children safe. The childminder reviews the services that she provides carefully to identify further improvements. For instance, she plans to extend even further her skills in supporting children's early communication development. She is committed to the ongoing development of her professional skills. For example, recent research has helped her to extend the opportunities for children to gain a deeper awareness of the wider world.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a good range of opportunities to help children to develop their physical skills. Children enjoy throwing and catching games and babies learn how to descend steps safely. Children fill containers with water and carry these carefully. Older children concentrate well as they scrunch paper to decorate their artwork and talk about their design ideas. Babies develop their understanding of processes, such as cause and effect. They laugh as they squeeze toys to produce air and make blowing sounds with their mouths. Children show an interest in forms of technology, such as operating lights on electronic toys. The childminder recognises when to move children's learning on to keep them motivated to play and explore.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is friendly and babies form a close attachment to her. Children are happy, secure and enjoy involving her in their play. The childminder provides children with a stimulating learning environment and they make confident choices about what they would like to do, such as which activities they would like to access next. The childminder helps children to learn about staying safe. They know how to protect their skin from the sun. The childminder plans a range of activities to raise children's awareness of communities beyond their immediate experiences, such as the different languages that people speak.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children use their imaginations as they play. They use cooking role-play equipment and offer people cups of tea. They enjoy opportunities to respond to music, such as singing and dancing. Babies quietly observe others and then copy their actions. They make links with their own experiences, such as rolling cars down ramps. Children demonstrate good levels of concentration and focus well on a task. For example, they persevere as they try to separate objects that are joined together and then reattach them to repeat the task.
