p.1
The provision is good
n The childminder routinely reflects and evaluates her practice to help improve outcomes for children. The views of parents and children are always welcomed by her to fully support this process. n Children are very happy and confident in the childminder's setting. They make their own choices about what they want to play with from the varied selection of resources available to them. n The childminder is a strong role model for the children and consistently manages their behaviour well. She is realistic in regard to individual children's ages and stages of development. The childminder's calm, consistent approach to supporting positive behaviour means that children quickly learn what is expected. n Partnerships with other early years settings and local schools that children attend are effective. The childminder shares comprehensive information to support consistency in children's learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder does not consistently provide information to parents on how they can support their children's learning at home. n Although the childminder clearly identifies children's next steps in learning, she does not provide maximum opportunities for children to achieve these.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of her role and responsibility to ensure children's safety. She has a secure understanding of the procedures she must follow in the event of any concerns about a child in her care. All mandatory training is kept up to date and the childminder uses the evaluation of her practice to build on her own professional development. The childminder supervises children vigilantly and carries out detailed risk assessments. She teaches children about safe play to help reduce the risk of accident and injury.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder effectively helps children to develop their understanding of the world around them. The children research and learn about the life cycle of caterpillars, waiting patiently for them to change into butterflies. The childminder supports children well to develop their communication and language skills. She skilfully joins in with the children's play, extending their vocabulary as she introduces new words. The childminder plans activities that motivate and encourage the children to learn. Children are eager to join in and use the play materials that are available to them. They show good dexterity as they manipulate and squeeze the sand, which helps to support their early writing skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children benefit from healthy lifestyles. The childminder encourages them to drink and take in lots of fluid during the hot weather. Children make their own decisions about what they want to eat. Healthy and nutritious choices are offered for snacks and meals by the childminder. Children's physical development is well promoted. They play energetically outside in the garden each day and enjoy trips to the park and nature walks. Younger children benefit from regular trips to local venues and groups. This helps children to develop their social skills as they learn to mix with other adults and children in their community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning and development. They are curious, keen to explore and eager to learn new skills. Older children enjoy making marks in different ways, which supports their literacy skills in preparation for their next stage in learning, such as starting school. For example, children use chalk to draw pictures and write their name while playing outside. Children play cooperatively together. They develop good social skills and learn to share and take turns with favourite resources.
