The childminder understands the procedures to follow and has a clear understanding of how to keep children safe. Safeguarding is effective. She has high expectations for her practice. For example, she uses her self-evaluation to accurately highlight areas of development. She effectively applies training she has gained from courses to improve the outcomes for children in her care. The childminder actively promotes equality, diversity, tolerance and respect through her daily routines and working alongside other professionals. She shares information with parents and the school to ensure children have smooth transitions.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Overall, the childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of how to promote children's learning and what they can achieve. The quality of teaching and learning is good. She provides a wide range of resources and opportunities for children to learn about people, communities and the world through outdoor activities and planned events. For example, she brings clothes from home and encourages children to dress in traditional costumes during festivals. She guides children to lead their play activities and spontaneously responds to children's learning needs. For example, children extend their imaginary play and move chairs to make a 'tram' for everyone to ride in. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills in a meaningful way.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a stimulating and welcoming environment. Children are motivated, interested and have secure attachments. They confidently and independently lead their play and manage tasks during the daily routines. The childminder provides balanced and healthy snacks. For example, very young children share out the bowls during snack time. Children enjoy healthy eating and engage positively during mealtimes together. Parents are encouraged to be involved in their children's care. For example, the childminder uses a daily diary to encourage parents to give feedback. The childminder gives clear messages to children about their personal care, such as encouraging children to brush their teeth.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are active learners and enjoy a wide range of resources. They are very imaginative, creative and have good communication and language skills. Children communicate well and confidently plan activities and share their ideas. Children, including those who need extra support, make good progress. They learn about their local environment and recall their experiences from visits and outings. Children learn the skills they need for their next stages in learning or their move to school.
