Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder confidently discusses the child protection procedures to follow if she has any concerns. She is fully aware of possible signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect. In addition, the childminder understands her responsibility to safeguard children who may be at risk of being exposed to radical views. There are good systems in place to support the childminder's assistant in her role and responsibilities. For example, the childminder carries out supervision meetings with her assistant to promote her professional development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder follows children's lead effectively. She incorporates children's individual interests through a wide range of enjoyable and stimulating learning opportunities. The childminder actively encourages younger children to be creative and to express their own ideas and thoughts. Older children show excitement and enthusiasm as they extend their imagination during role play, where they pretend to work in an ice-cream shop. The childminder develops good relationships with parents and communicates successfully with them on a daily basis. She positively encourages parents to share information about their children's abilities and skills at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children follow effective hygiene practices and learn about what foods are good for their bodies. This supports them to gain their own awareness of how to keep themselves healthy. The childminder uses a calm and consistent approach to reinforce behavioural boundaries. Children are kind and respectful to each other. The childminder is caring and nurturing, and builds close bonds with children. This makes a good contribution to children's emotional well-being. The childminder establishes links with local primary schools. She works in partnership with teachers to complement children's learning and development.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress and acquire skills in readiness for the next stage in their learning, including school. They are motivated learners and are willing to 'have a go'. Children show good levels of independence and complete small tasks for themselves, such as serving their own food at lunchtime. Children extend their early literacy skills. Younger children begin to make marks and show an interest in books. Older children listen well to familiar stories and recognise what will happen next.
