The provision is good
n The childminder is a well-qualified, experienced early years practitioner. Overall, the quality of her teaching is good. She has a comprehensive understanding of how young children develop and learn. Children make good progress in their learning. n Partnerships with parents are well established. The childminder keeps parents informed of the progress their children are making and shares documents, such as children's learning journals, with them. n The childminder is proactive in working collaboratively with external professionals, such as health visitors. This helps to support children's individual needs. n The childminder has developed good arrangements to track the progress children make in their learning. This helps her to identify any areas where children may require additional help or support.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder does not consistently help children to develop a deep enough understanding of health and safety practices as they play. n Occasionally, some experiences offered to younger children do not fully engage them and promote their learning to the highest level.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has strong knowledge of signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk of harm. She knows whom to contact to share any concerns she may have. Regular training opportunities help to ensure the childminder has the most up-to-date safeguarding knowledge, to keep children safe and protected. The childminder is a reflective practitioner who monitors her provision well. She evaluates her daily practice, identifying ways she can enhance and improve. Future plans for development are in place. For example, the childminder plans to enhance her knowledge of outdoor learning and extend her skills to support two-year-old children. Ongoing learning opportunities, such as accessing online training, help to strengthen the childminder's professional knowledge even further.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has good arrangements in place to observe and assess where children are in their learning. She uses this knowledge well, overall, to plan activities that motivate children and help them to make good progress in their learning. The childminder supports children's early writing skills particularly well. For instance, she models how to write a shopping list and encourages children to help by making their own marks on the paper. Children enjoy additional experiences, such as using large chunky chalks to make marks on the external walls and path. The childminder helps pre- school children develop the skills they require for their future learning in school. She encourages them to develop independence in dressing themselves and supports their developing understanding of concepts, such as recognising numerals.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy, confident and thoroughly enjoy the time they spend with the childminder. They behave well and develop strong relationships with her and other members of her family. The childminder recognises children's emotional needs, particularly if they are tired or feeling upset. She talks gently to children, offering comfort and reassurance. Children reach out to her for cuddles, welcoming the warm, consistent care provided. Children's physical health is supported well. Good opportunities are provided, such as playing outdoors in the childminder's garden and accessing local parks and other facilities.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning. Older children are developing as confident communicators, sharing their thoughts and ideas with each other as they play. They cooperate with each other, taking turns and sharing resources well. Younger children enjoy listening to stories read aloud to them and point to pictures that interest them. They copy words spoken to them by the childminder, helping to extend their growing vocabulary.
