Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the signs and symptoms that may give her cause for concern. She fully understands her responsibility to report any child protection concerns to the relevant agency. Thorough risk assessments for the home and outings help to ensure that children remain safe and secure. Parents say they are very happy with the care given to their children. Parents receive daily feedback, helping them to understand what their child is learning with the childminder.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The well-qualified childminder supervises children constantly and joins in with their play. This helps them to develop good levels of independence and self-esteem. The childminder encourages children to recognise and name letters and numbers on road signs as they walk home from school. Children make choices about their play from the wide range of resources available. They take part in some adult-directed activities and those they choose for themselves. The childminder observes, assesses and monitors gaps in children's learning to help them to make good progress. The childminder places a strong emphasis on children's communication and language. For example, she successfully questions and encourages children, and provides a narrative of what they are doing. Children enjoy mixing paints and talk about what happens when they mix different colours together. They use metal pans and other recycling materials to make music outside.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are very settled and confident within the childminder's home. The childminder acts as a good role model and reminds children to be kind and respectful to one another. They respond positively towards her. The childminder gives children opportunities to socialise with others. For instance, they attend the local library where they learn to share and take turns. Children enjoy sharing books and develop the skills they need in readiness for their future move to nursery and school. The childminder encourages children's good health and physical development effectively. For example, children enjoy home-cooked, nutritious meals and daily fresh air and exercise. Older children comment on how much they enjoy their time with the fun and caring childminder.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children, including those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities, make good progress from their unique starting points. They are keen, active learners who enjoy simple challenges. They know how to listen to one another as they negotiate and extend ideas during play. Children develop creativity as they join in with singing. They are eager to learn and have good levels of motivation.
