provision and at home. She provides information for parents about providing a healthy lunchbox and offers children a good range of healthy snacks.

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector viewed all areas of the premises used by children.  The inspector took into account the views of parents and carers throughout the inspection.  The inspector held a meeting with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the setting.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder fully understands the process to follow should she have concerns about a child's welfare. She carries out regular visual checks to ensure that her home, garden and resources are suitable for children to use. The childminder monitors the development of individual children and responds to any gaps in learning quickly. She regularly reflects on practice and identifies her professional development needs. The childminder actively seeks training to support and extend the quality of her provision. Parents and carers have a good relationship with the childminder and speak highly of her.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder makes good use of the local community to broaden children's experiences and promote their learning. For example, they walk to the local park and discuss road safety. Children's communication skills are extended as they join in with favourite songs and rhymes. Children enjoy the outdoors. They extend their physical skills by making shapes in the pasta and confidently push themselves along on scooters. The childminder models simple mathematical language and encourages children to count during activities, for example, counting the blocks and number cards. The children learn early writing skills as the childminder encourages them to make marks in the sand.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have a strong sense of belonging and demonstrate that they are emotionally secure. The children have free access to the outdoors and they get plenty of fresh air and exercise. The childminder encourages children to be considerate, to say 'please' and 'thank you', and she gives them lots of praise and encouragement, helping to raise their self- esteem. Children's behaviour is good, and this is supported well by a consistent routine. Older children who attend the out-of-school provision are provided with a range of age- appropriate resources, such as junk modelling, and younger children benefit from mixing with various age groups.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their starting points. They develop skills in literacy as they look at books and join in with action songs. Children enjoy themselves while playing independently and make firm friendships within the group, and they learn to respect each other and take turns. Children are beginning to sort, match and count. Children gain the necessary skills to support their readiness for the next stage in their learning.
