This provision is good
Children progress well. Older children, in particular, take part in a very good range of activities indoors and outdoors that engages them well. The childminder plans around their interests and next steps in learning, identified through regular assessments. Children enjoy a well-balanced and carefully considered healthy diet, which contributes well to their physical well-being. The childminder effectively supports children's self-care skills during daily routines. Children are happy and settled and the childminder knows them well. This is supported through good information sharing with parents as children settle and thereafter. This helps the childminder to promote a shared approach to supporting children's care and learning. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always consider how the youngest children can be fully involved when taking part in group activities. Sometimes, the childminder does not explain to children why rules and boundaries exist, to support their early understanding of behavioural expectations to the highest level.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors, and the interactions between the childminder and children. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder and an assistant. She looked at relevant documents and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector viewed written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is fully aware of what to do should she have concerns about a child's welfare. She supervises toddlers closely, for example, as they eat lunch or negotiate steps while moving from outside to inside. The childminder reflects on her service alongside her co-childminder, sharing ideas as to how they can improve practice. Parents actively share their views through questionnaires, for instance. The co- childminder takes responsibility for the performance management of any assistants. They are fully aware of their roles and responsibilities. The childminder keeps abreast of changes, for instance, by attending regular network meetings, and her co-childminder cascades information from any training she has attended. The childminder is currently focussing on identifying more specific training relevant to her own professional development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder's qualification has a positive impact on her practice. She interacts well with children as they play, helping to build on their learning and develop new skills. The childminder encourages older children to solve problems, such as looking at the particular shape and pattern on each piece of a challenging puzzle. Children develop an excellent understanding of the world. For example, they plant and grow their own herbs, fruit and vegetables in the garden. Children develop a sense of responsibility while caring for such living things and learn about life cycles. Parents are continually informed about their children's learning and how they can support this at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are confident and show that they have built secure emotional attachments with all adults who work at the setting. Different age groups play well together, sharing experiences, for instance, as they create models with construction toys. The childminder praises and encourages older children, such as when they find the correct piece of a puzzle. This helps to foster their self-esteem and confidence. The childminder supports babies' care needs effectively. For example, she gives babies their own spoon so that they can have a go at feeding themselves. She stays close by to support them as necessary. The childminder creates a calming environment for nap times.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy their time at the setting and are developing skills that prepare them for future learning, including their eventual move to school. Babies and toddlers develop early communication skills, for example, as they look at books and join in with action songs. Older children show good focus while completing a more complex jigsaw and during activities, such as exciting ice play. They play amicably alongside one another, learning to share and take turns with their friends.
