This provision is good
Children make good progress in their learning. They demonstrate good speaking and listening skills and treat each other with kindness and respect. Toddlers are inquisitive and show good levels of imagination, such as when they pretend to care for dolls. The childminder provides children with a warm and inviting home-from-home environment. Children are confident and communicate their needs well to her. Effective partnerships with parents and other professionals support the childminder to meet children's individual needs. She shares information regularly with others to help ensure continuity in children's care and to promote shared learning. The childminder places a good focus on supporting children's language development. For example, she introduces positional language, such as 'up', 'down', 'along' and 'through', as children roll balls down a ramp. Children behave well. The childminder sets clear boundaries for behaviour to help

children develop good manners. Children take turns and share when playing together.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
During planned activities, the childminder does not consistently encourage children to make independent choices about their play to increase their engagement and enjoyment. The childminder has not yet focused her professional development on acquiring new, precise skills and knowledge that will help to further improve learning outcomes for children.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and the children and considered the impact this has on their learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she keeps the children in her care safe. The inspector viewed documents, including the childminder's paediatric first-aid certificate and public liability insurance. The inspector viewed the areas of the home used by children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has completed recent training and has a clear understanding of the possible indicators of abuse. She understands the procedure to follow should she have concerns about the welfare of a child in her care. She is conscientious in providing a safe environment for the children. She completes regular risk assessments to help ensure the environment and equipment are suitable. Regular observations and assessments of children's learning help her to identify any gaps in their progress and plan additional support to help children catch up. The childminder effectively evaluates her practice and gains the views of parents and children to make positive changes. Since her last inspection, she has strengthened the opportunities for children to have more access to books, to help support their early reading skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children well and offers them activities indoors and outdoors that challenge their learning. She talks to children about their interests and uses these opportunities to extend their learning further. For instance, as they read books together the childminder asked them to identify the animals they can see and the sounds that they make. Children have good opportunities to develop their physical skills, such as using paintbrushes and water to make marks on the pavement and dancing along to music. The childminder gives children good opportunities to develop their mathematical skills. For instance, they count how many hidden items they can find in the garden and blow bubbles to compare the different sizes they can create.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder successfully helps children to learn about healthy lifestyles. For example, they have good opportunities to be physically active and are encouraged to make healthy food choices. The childminder ensures children follow good hygiene routines and they wash their hands before meals and after playing with messing materials. Regular visits to play centres provide children with good opportunities to learn about their local community. Children show high levels of self-confidence and a willingness to support others. For instance, they help the childminder to move equipment from one area of her home to another.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development in readiness for starting pre-school and school. They obtain good communication skills and build positive friendships with others. They develop their counting skills and learn to recognise colours, sizes and solve problems, such as how to get balls out of a toy when they are stuck. Children develop a good understanding of how to keep themselves safe. For example, they learn about road safety and the importance of protecting themselves from the sun.
