Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding children and knows the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's welfare. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibility to help children feel safe and secure. She assesses her home to identify and minimise any potential hazards. The childminder continues to improve her knowledge and skills, for example, through her own research and by sharing practice and ideas with other childminders. She implements what she learns to help meet the children's needs more effectively. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder involves parents in evaluations of her practice to help improve the provision and helps them to support their children's learning at home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is confident in her teaching skills and effectively interacts with children. She knows the children in her care well and uses effective systems to check children's progress, to help her identify and address any gaps in learning. The childminder supports children's creative ideas well. Children focus as they use recyclable materials to make models, paint them and select materials to add interesting features. The childminder support children's communication and language development well. For example, she constantly talks to children as they play, models words for children to repeat and effectively uses simple questions to encourage children's thinking. She effectively encourages children to use their imaginations. For instance, they pretend to make a variety of food for the childminder to 'eat' and she happily responds.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder offers a welcoming environment for children. She uses her warm interactions to support children to settle and enjoy their learning. The childminder teaches children to respect others and they play happily together, share and take turns. The childminder encourages children to have a go at new experiences and praises them for their achievements, which helps to build their confidence and self-esteem. Children learn about the importance of healthy lifestyles. They enjoy healthy snacks, have good opportunities to play outside and develop good hygiene routines.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and willing to learn. They develop strong relationships with adults and learn to play cooperatively with others. Children develop an understanding of early literacy. For instance during an art activity, they used glue and pompoms to spell their own names. They engage in play that encourages them to use their imaginations and own ideas. Children are keen and motivated learners who are ready for their next stages in learning, including the move to school.
