This provision is good
The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of the learning and development requirements. She provides welcoming and stimulating play environments indoors and outside. Children make good progress from their starting points. They are involved in many activities which appeal to their current interests. The childminder continually reflects on her practice and she values children's and parents' opinions about her service. Parents are pleased with the childminding service they receive. The motivated childminder continues to build on her knowledge and skills. She has completed a relevant childcare course at level 3 and she uses what she learns to benefit the children. For example, she has strengthened the planning of learning experiences. Children behave well and respond positively to consistent praise and encouragement. They learn to share, take turns and play cooperatively together.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Sometimes, the childminder does not give children enough time to think about what she has asked before she asks more questions. Therefore, children's learning is not always maximised. The childminder does not make the most of her good relationships with parents to help them complement and extend their children's learning at home.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

sharpen the focus on using skilful questioning, giving children more time to answer, so that they understand more clearly what is asked of them find more effective ways of helping parents to guide their child's learning at home.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home and in the garden. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector observed and evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's records and planning, and discussed the childminder's policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a very good understanding of how to protect children from harm. She is confident to follow procedures if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder completes daily safety checks around her home and for outings, to identify and minimise any potential hazards, and to help keep children safe and secure. Overall, the childminder establishes good working relationships with parents. She values parents input about what their children already know and can do, from the very start of their placement. The childminder keeps parents up to date with regard to progress children make in their learning. For example, she discusses and provides regular and informative reports.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder closely assesses children's progress to help her quickly identify where they may need more precise help with their learning. She completes the progress check for children aged between two and three years, and she provides parents with a copy for their child's health visitor. Children are involved in many activities which appeal to their interests. They develop their imagination and creativity, for example, as they dress up, paint and stick. Children have good opportunities to learn about number, colour, shape and measurement. For example, they fill and empty containers, fit puzzles together and thread pasta on to spaghetti. Children explore the world around them; they observe the life cycle of the butterfly and plant flowers and fruit. The childminder makes suggestions and encourages children to problem solve and develop muscles in their hands, for instance, as they use tweezers to pick up and sort pompoms.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children begin to take some responsibility for their own safety. For example, they fetch their sun hats and suncream spontaneously before going into the garden. They regularly enjoy outings in the local community to pre-school groups, the woods and parks. Children develop good large-physical skills. For example, they learn to climb and slide, ride and steer, and push and pull toys. Children learn about other people's culture and beliefs. For example, they enjoy activities, such as making Rangoli patterns, which helps them to begin to learn about different festival celebrations.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and independent. They are proud to carry out little responsibilities and they learn to dress and undress themselves, manage in the bathroom and select toys to play with. Children practise early writing for example, they use pencils, brushes, chalks and rollers to make marks. They are able to listen attentively and follow simple instructions. Children learn key skills that support their next stage in learning and prepare them well for their eventual move on to school.
